IPB Initiates Education Pattern Resulting in Technopreneur and Sociopreneur
The Alumni Association of the Postgraduate Program (SPs) in Natural Resources and Environmental Management (PSL) of the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in collaboration with the Natural Resources and Environmental Management Science (PSL) Study Program, Postgraduate School of IPB held a National Seminar and 2nd Congress of IPB PSL Alumni Association, Friday (9/11) at Manggala Wana Bakti Building, Central Jakarta.
In his remarks, the Chancellor of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria requested PSL alumni of SPs of IPB to play an active role in the community. "IPB's PSL alumni are very different from other graduate alumni. This is because the majority is field practitioners, who go to campus to study the theories of natural resources and environmental management, then return to the field to practice the knowledge gained. This is the power of the PSL alumni who are now regional heads or other professions to take environmental management policies in their respective regions. I am sure, PSL of SPs of IPB will continue to lead in reality-based research and PSL alumni will also make successes that will have a good impact on the IPB's PSL. Not only in the form of material, but also nonmaterial benefits which are important to be provided by the alumni for the school," said the Rector of IPB.
The Chancellor of IPB further said, "All of us have realized that in 2030 we will experience a demographic bonus. Therefore, we have also begun to arrange the best curriculum to prepare ourselves before 2030. Prof. Andi Hakim Nasoetion used to use an educational method that produced alumni such as myself and all of you who are superior technocrats. Now the era has changed, in the days of Prof. Andi Hakim Nasoetion, most political leaders were from the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI). Now the political leaders in our country come from successful entrepreneurs. Therefore, we began to initiate the pattern of education that will give birth to technopreneurs and sociopreneurs who will become leaders in the future. Thus, we made a Dormitory of Leaders and opened the Student Council (OSIS) Chair Track, so we are able to attract students who have leadership genes," explained the Rector of IPB.
According to Dr. Arif Satria, the direction of agricultural management in Indonesia at present is far different than before. "In managing agriculture, we will statistically face a farm labor crisis. According to available data, the average age of farmers in Japan is 65 years, while the average age of farm workers in Indonesia is 45 years. This is because the children of farm laborers do not want to become farmers like their parents. Who will be the farm laborers? Robots and other mechanization technologies will carry out their duties as farm laborers. Farmers in Japan are now using buttons to water, fertilize, and control their crops. By using technology, all agricultural activities will be more precise," said the IPB Chancellor.
Meanwhile, Head of PSL Study Program of SPs of IPB, Prof. Dr. Cecep Kusmana said, "I hope, PSL can continue to develop in a better direction to become a School of Environment and Sustainable Science and continue to maintain the A accreditation that has been obtained from the beginning since this study program was established," said Prof. Cecep.
