Ridwan Kamil Graduates Thousands of Mothers in IPB
Sekolah Ibu (Mother School) held a graduation ceremony for its 2040 participants of Batch I in Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW), IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor (6/10). Ibu School was one of Bogor City’s main program in family and children empowerment. This was a collaborative program with the Department of Family and Consumers Science (IKK), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB). This graduation ceremony was so special to the the participants, which were the mothers from 68 villages in Bogor, because West Java Governor, Ridwan Kamil, Head of The Driving Team of Family Welfare Development (TP-PKK), West Java Province, Atalia Praratya, along with IPB Rector, Arif Satria, were present and directly led the graduation ceremony.
Bogor City Mayor, Bima Arya conveyed his gratefulness and gratitude towards the realization of this first batch of mother education program. "We, as Bogor citizen, are very grateful that we inherit many amazing values from our ancestors. Many stories told how prosperous and blissful the Padjajaran Kingdom in the past. What we are doing and working on right now will be inherited to the future generation. Kota Bogor, a city that is full of love, a city with happy families. Thank you to IKK IPB for continuously doing researches and also for collaborating in this Sekolah Ibu. This is the form of ikhtiar that makes the idea of Bogor that is friendly for children and families achievable," said Bima Arya.
IPB Rector, Arif Satria, expressed his gratitude to Bogor City for constantly involving IPB to collaborate. The partnership between Bogor City and IPB is not only limited to Sekolah Ibu, but there are also other programs like "Mobil Curhat, Mobil Anti Galau". Mobil Curhat is a counseling service and assistance related to nutrition and family. IPB also has Agrianita with activities such as Kindergarten (TK) and Childcare Agriananda, Children Dolanan Festival, and many other activities.
"Research in measuring happiness level considers good family, friends, and work. IPB always try to develop the knowledge related to family and children. We also have character labschool to build the best character for our nation through children. Welcome to the innovation campus that is both children and family friendly," conveyed IPB Rector.
Themed "Educating One Mother Equals to Saving a Nation", the program that was conducted in 20 meetings got a direct appreciation from West Java Governor, Ridwan Kamil. In his speech, Ridwan Kamil said that in his leadership era, West Java has a motto of "Jabar Juara Lahir Batin". It meant that the government did not only take care about the physical infrastructure but also took care of the happiness and the spirituality of its people.
"Happiness is present as the result of expectations and needs fulfillment. Building harmony in a relationship in a family is not always easy. Starting from Bogor City, we will implement this program in other cities and districts in West Java. We make Sekolah Ibu as a happiness pillar under five values; religious, happy, fair, collaborative, and innovative," he explained.
The head of TP PKK of Bogor City, which also was the pioneer of Sekolah Ibu program, Yane Ardian, said that Sekolah Ibu's objective was to create the family resilience. The establishment of Sekolah Ibu also came from the social phenomenon that occurred in today's society, where divorce rate and juvenile delinquency were very concerning.
"Those conditions did not only occur in Bogor but had become the national social problem. This led PKK Bogor City to help the government to overcome those problems. One of the ways was through Sekolah Ibu," said Yane.
The mothers were chosen because a mother was the primary figure that holds many important roles in a family. A mother had a lot of roles and was capable of doing various things to fulfill the need of every family member. A mother gave balance in a family.
”Sekolah Ibu is also expected to be able to help to solve the problems in the society. To increase mothers' capacity, they were given materials to equip them with the knowledge to do their roles, both domestic and public roles," said Yane, the wife of Bogor City Mayor, which is also a graduate student of IKK IPB.
Sekolah Ibu was begun simultaneously in 68 villages in Bogor in July 2018. It was conducted in villages' halls twice a week for three months. The participants took 19 lessons and were supervised by 122 voluntary teaching staffs that came from various backgrounds. The lessons were about Sekolah Ibuurgency, family resiliency urgency, primary concept of marriage, family function, reproductive health, brain and personality introduction, and self-potential.
The mothers were given materials about a healthy house, family finance management, husband and wife effective communication, first aid in the family, enhancement of family health, and conflict and stress management. Besides that, the participants were also given knowledge about parenting values and patterns, as well as communication with children, communication with teenagers, roles division in the family, dress ethics, five keys of food safety, to the family's nationality.
"I personally am very proud to see the development of the mothers after joining this school. What was more touching was when I was visited by some mothers who claimed not to be divorced after applying what they got at the Sekolah Ibu. There was also a mother that said that she could communicate better with her child, even was able to discuss things and such," said Yane.
Also present in the graduation ceremony were the officials from Muspida Bogor City and Bogor City Legislators, also the department heads of Bogor City, the Subdistrict Heads, and District Heads. (CN)
