Plastic waste is a hot issue, especially related to waste in the ocean. Indonesia is known to be one of the countries that has the highest plastic contribution in the world. Coral Reef Specialist of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Beginer Subhan, S.Pi, M.Si invited the public to reduce the use of plastic waste to protect coral reefs.

This was stated by the Teaching Staff of the Department of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, IPB, Saturday (8/9) at the United States Cultural Center at @America, Jakarta in a discussion and watching the Chasing Coral film together. This activity is carried out by the Terumbu Rupa Foundation in collaboration with the @america in the framework of the Our Ocean Conference (OOC) 2018 in Bali. Also present at the event, environmental activists from The Nature Conservancy, Rizya Ardiwijaya, who were mostly involved in conservation areas in Papua Bird's Head Waters.

In the discussion Beginer Subhan, S.Pi, M.Si also stated that the results of research in several regions by coral reef experts from Indonesia and the world found that it was surprising that there were also many cases of plastic waste in coral diseases. Therefore, the small thing we can do is reduce the use of plastic to save coral reefs in Indonesia. (jhn)
