Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information Holds a General Lecture Regarding Nationalism in Digital Era in IPB

Nowadays the rapid development of digital era makes people’s identity are determined by their accounts in the cyberspace. On the digital economy span that is still in its early stage, our young generation has generated a legacy on the international level that is not only good to be remembered but also good to inspire the other. With its universal basic characteristic, digital technology is also change the concept of a state. Thus are some statements given by the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information, Rudiantara, when the general lecture was given on September 24th 2018 at Graha Widya Wisuda, IPB Dramaga Campus, Bogor.
“In the era of digital based economy we are having a fortune that we have a growing company or unicorn that have shown great performance and significantly contributes to our national economy,” said the Minister.
This event can be held by the cooperation of Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information and IPB’s Directorate of Collaboration for Alumni Affairs.
According to Rudiantara, since 2017, Go Jek has obtained a predicate as one of the “50 Companies that Change the World by Fortune Magazine for its great contributions to the world in social, additional value and innovation aspects. Besides unicorn aspect, Indonesia also has several startups that have shown their great performance. Based on the Startup Ranking by March 2018, Indonesia is in the fourth place. The first place occupied by United States of America and followed by India and United Kingdom. “Every country in this world are competing to get the Foreign Direct Investment for the Start Ups. Indonesia is favored by being one of several countries that are targeted by the startup world level investors. It is proved by the rapid development unicorn’s number in Indonesia” said the Minister in front of thousands of IPB’s students.
Furthermore, Rudiantara also stated that in this very mean of time where world economy is unstable, Indonesia could be grateful for having several sectors since a few years ago that have applied strategies to increase the terms of Local Content Level (TKDN) for export goods. For your information, nowadays the number of mobile phone, tablets, and other that certified by the TKDN are 43 brands in total, 11 out of 43 are the local brands. However, the software aspect cannot be ignored. Therefore, there is a scheme that gives an alternative to qualify the TKDN.
It is also stated that the application of TKDN is not free from obstacles. Other countries also have concerned to protect their companies expansion market from export limitation. Likewise free trade contract that concerned about the export limitation of countries that are the members of it. However in the time of crisis like the fluctuation of world course, it is shown that the protection of local market and industry is a strategy that must be applied along the free trade contact.
The minister affirmed that in developing digital economy, the government has adapted the right style to overcome the changes in time. Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information has “self-disrupted” by not playing its role as a regulator that determines everything but has changed its role to be a facilitator and accelerator. “Several role changes in our ministry have shown conformity to digital leadership that is relaxation and simplification of the regulation. Affirmative regulation made for the communication, information, and communication infrastructure development, encourages digital entrepreneurship, and also accelerates the production of new unicorn via Next Indonesia Unicorn program, “the Minister said.
Finally, with the digital leadership that attempted to be fast and right in presenting the digital ecosystem, the government hoped that it could build innovative entrepreneurship culture in Indonesia. The wide numbers of unicorn and startups in Indonesia have shown that the government broaden the chances for them and support them.
“So, let’s prepare the innovation and utilize the ecosystem provided by the government properly and be the strength of our national economy,” asked the Minister.
On the other hand, IPB’s Principal, Dr. Arif Satria said that nationalism in the digital era is an important issue to be understood. Students nowadays are the native of the digital world. The development of transportation and telecommunication infrastructure including the emergence of telegram, mobile phone, and internet is the main factor of globalization that leads to economy, social and cultural activity dependency in the world.
“In this mean of time, the competition of creativity and imagination has begun so that one day we could be faster, more creative, and more success,” said the Principal.
The principal added that nowadays IPB’s students might want to be a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the future. IPB has a commitment to build CEOs that have great ability. IPB has also created Asrama Kepemimpinan (Leadership Dormitory) that used as a learning media for the students who are willing to be a great CEO.
“Basically there is nothing wrong with this era, it’s just that the generation often trapped by the light of globalization era. Indonesian young generation is likely to be in a comfort zone but in fact anytime it could just harm them. If the young generation could not be thorough, then the outside world could affect them , change their way of thinking that caused the deficiency of nationalism. Therefore, IPB wants to build technopreneurship and socio-entrepreneurship leaders that is also becomes one of great careers in the future,” stated the Principal.
This motivation talk show alike also involved several well-known speakers such as Herry Nugraha as the Co-Founder and CEO of Etanee.id Food Marketplace, Zakka Fauzan M as the Vice Precident of Product Bukalapak, and Fahri Amirullah as the CEO and Co-Founder of Impacts Digital.
