IPB on Indonesian Biomass Potency: Japan and South Korea Agreed on 10-Billion-Dollars-Worth Contract

At International Conference on Biomass 2018 held by Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Centreon August 1st, 2018, Dr. Bayu Krisnamurti—from IPB Faculty of Economics and Management and the steering committee—stated about the recent 10-billion-dollars-worth contract signed by Japan and South Korea on Indonesian biomass utilization into power plants renewable biofuel and bioplastics substitution as plastic waste minimization conducts. By far, the only biomass has been managed in large-scaled industry is oil palm’s. There are not less than 120-140 million tons of potential biomass which have not been handled to the optimum extent. In the near future, 3-4 new fields may emerge as the next biomass management actions and 400-500 crude oil based products are potential to be substituted; hence the huge research potency. IPB Rector—Dr. Arif Satria on his welcoming speech claimed IPB major influence through the conference on linking the most advanced and foremost biomass experts from research and business field considering biomass significant role in global paradigm alter from crude oil based materials to biomaterials and rising awareness on sustainable environmental and economic aspects. Besides biofuel, biomaterial, bio-chemicals, bio-adsorbent, bio-surfactant are comprised as other alternative biomass derivative products. The development does not solely distinguish the heat and power generation efficiency, but also cost performance. Not less than 200 domestic and international researchers and practitioners attended the conference was expected to fasten the technical development and commercialization of sustainable biobased product and energy.
