Solar Tumblr By IPB Students, A Water-heating Solution for Travellers

Nowadays everything demands speed. Due to development in technology, everything can be done instantly. An innovation called Solar Tumblr as an instant water heater by Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students tries to answer the needs of those who wish everything to be done instantly.

Solar Tumblr team consists of Ummu Salamah Khoiriyah, Dewi Uswatun Khasanah, and Sri Wahyuningsih, and is supervised by Dr Akhiruddin Maddu, Ssi, Msi. They designed a water heater for travellers with solar panel and battery as the main components.

“Solar Tumblr is a tool like a tumbler that can heat water up with solar energy. It works by utilizing solar energy to convert it into electric. The energy is contained in the battery. The water is heated using coil and inverter. Solar Tumblr with 12-volt voltage can heat water up until its boiling point for 13 minutes.” said Ummu.

Ummu Salamah said that one of the reasons they created this innovation is to utilize one of the renewable energies, which is solar energy. “The advantage of this tool is that it utilizes renewable energy, so that its utilization is optimal and can go hand in hand with development in technology,” she added.

“We know that utilizing electric will exhaust the resources that fuels it. With many technologies relying on electric, we want to apply renewable energy in current technologies,” she added.

Soon, Ummu hopes that Solar Tumblr can be developed and produced in a larger number and hopes that solar panel price can be more affordable. Additionally, she also hopes that this tool can give a solution for travellers to heat water up quickly. (Ard)
