IPB Students Teach Children About Natural Disaster Mitigation Through Kidsrescue
Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) students incentive to innovate things that care about nature and the environment. One of them is the act of raising children's awareness of natural disasters that often occur in Bogor.
The idea of educating children to be ready for disaster emergency in the event of Student Creativity Week (PKM). This PKM is named Kidsrescue. Kidsrescue is a learning program for mitigating natural disasters and forest environments for young people in the face of global warming. Its location is in the vicinity of Halimun Salak Mountain National Park (GHSNP).
The avalanche occurring around GHSNP makes the students of IPB Kresna Bhayu Adelta and his colleagues moved in making PKM in this environment field. Based on data from the United Nations International Strategy of Disaster Reduction (UNSDR) mentioned that Indonesia was ranked first for landslide disaster followed by India, China, and the Philippines. Most landslides are caused by high rainfall intensity and active tectonic systems at the time. Although landslides are frequent, the community has not understood the importance of a mitigation action or attempts to reduce the risk of the landslide.
This disaster mitigation learning program focuses on disaster mitigation training for teachers who are expected to implement it to their students. Kidsrescue is a program of learning natural and forest hazard mitigation for educative, inspirational and applicative young people. The program includes Demonstration and disaster mitigation, First Aid, Yura (Yuk Flora), Otan (Sporting Forest), Yusha (Yuk Sharing), and Fun Competition.
PKM chaired by Kresna Bhayu Adelta consists of four people namely Salsabila Nadien, Deni Prihanto, Sabrina Syukrainisa, and Asti Kharisma and guided directly by Ir. Nindyantoro. The five students of Bogor Agricultural University are optimistic to complete the program for two months at a time, to see the positive response from local people, teachers, and local government. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and the GHSNP Office also participated in supporting the program.
"The objective of the Kidsrescue learning program is to increase knowledge, awareness, concern, and create Kidsrescue community as a mitigation movement against natural hazards around GHSNP in facing global warming issue. The benefits of the Kidsrescue program are to increase understanding of disaster mitigation and increase awareness that can reduce the impact of disasters and global warming issues with anticipative and applicative activities," he said.
