Being Critical to Election Issues, IPB Students Win the Politics Student Debate

Another achievement was again achieved by three students of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in the event of Politics Student Debate Competition of West Java held on 30-31 May 2018 at Padjadjaran University (Unpad).

Regional Election Commission (KPUD) of West Java Province in cooperation with Political Science Program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Unpad and the Association of Political Science Study Program conducted a Student Debate Competition with the intention of rebuilding the positive spirit of the young generation and training students to always be critical towards issues in the election implementation of regional head, especially in West Java. This event was important for students as young voters.

Starting from the interest of three students of IPB, namely Laras Salsabila, Futiha Hikmatul Husna, and Habibul Fuadi Hanif, in participating in various debate competitions, they were challenged to participate in this debate competition.

"This political debate competition is a forum to be more participative in the general election, especially as young voters. The future of Indonesian politics is in sight, whether in the direction of good or bad, but the optimism of thinking as a nation should always be put forward. Political years will soon be faced along with all the political turmoil," said Husna.

Prior to joining this debate competition, all participants who signed up were required to write a critical and innovative essay for a better West Java democracy. A total of 16 from 40 universities participated was selected to present their analysis of the quality of democracy and its impact on the quality of human resource and sustainable development.

After successfully defeating the other participants, IPB delegates finally won the first place in this debate. In addition, Habibul Fuadi Hanif succeeded in becoming the Best Speaker in the political debate of the students of West Java. The second winner was achieved by Indonesia University of Education (UPI), followed by Bandung Islamic University (Unisba) as the third winner.

Habibul conveyed that the young generation should be a young man who cares about politics and becomes smart voters, because the government and all the state apparatus have dedicated themselves to remain strong and consistent in maintaining the integrity and unity of the nation. It was a great moment that the participants were able to bring up their aspirations for better democracy as well as to meet and discuss with leaders from KPUD of West Java. (HA/ZSP/ris)
