Successful IPB Alumni Shares the Knowledge of Doing Business to IPB Students

Directorate of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held Students Entrepreneurship Program (PMW) studium generale. This event was held in Andi Hakim Nasution auditorium, IPB Dramaga Campus Rectorate (19/5) and was attended by 300 entrepreneur students divided into 99 business group. There were 41 group whose business had been running, while 58 others were still in a proposal design. This studium generale presented two successful IPB alumni who has been active in the world of entrepreneurship, Fauzan Feisal and Haidhar Wurjanto (owner of Momomilk, Foresthree, and Mozza).

In his speech, Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria conveyed the problem of the nation which is the high unemployment rate. The condition of the nation will improve when there is the need of achievement. Need of achievement is what will trigger entrepreneurship. The current economic growth of Indonesian tends to be managed only by a handful of people, opportunity distribution program is required to trigger the emergence of new actors.

"IPB will foster the students since their first-year, they will be mapped based on interest so that the students who are interested with entrepreneurship can be directed and developed. IPB will make this initiator and pilot project as a form of preparation for IPB and its students to make IPB as an entrepreneurial campus", he added.

After officially opened by the Rector of IPB, the studium generale was followed by a talk show session with IPB alumni who has succeed in the field of entrepreneurial as an addition of knowledge and insight  about the real businesses world.

Feisal, who is the current CEO of Digital Amoeba Telkom, has experienced many failures in entrepreneurship, such as being deceived, loss of co-workers, and difference of vision in team. For him, he needed 13 years of learning process to be in his current position, as the leader of Amoeba.

"We will never truly be an entrepreneur if we have never failed. For me, learning design thinking and re-find yourself or the team is a very important thing to do. To be total in everything we do is a very important thing to be noted. I have four messages: care your passion, be persistence and stay progressive, and do not forget that there are 'invisible hands' or assistance from the Almighty for any of our efforts," said the Aquaculture IPB batch 38 alumnus.

Similarly, Haidhar, before owning Simha Group which includes Momomilk, Foresthree and Mozza, had to learn to fail from variety of businesses that he did. He studied entrepreneurship since he was in college. He did any type of business, such as selling phone credit, Japanese food, mobile phone casing, and fried rice, until currently he’s consistent in culinary world.

"Everything that I sold was simple products. Who could not make juice? Anyone could certainly do it. But through Foresthree I made it exclusive. Bottom line, since college I was determined that after I graduate I should be able to be a job creator not job seeker. Business is an art. Blessings come when there is an opportunity and we are ready to receive that opportunities, " said Management IPB batch 46 alumnus.

Seen to be present was Vice Rector for Innovation, Business, and Entrepreneurship, Prof. Erika Budiarti Laconi as well as the Director of Student Affairs and Career Development, Dr. Alim Setiawan. (RYF)
