IPB Held Food Products Shelf Life Prediction and Management Training
Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agricultural Technology IPB, in cooperation with Southeast Asian Food and Agricultural Science and Technology (SEAFAST) Center and IPB Institute of Research and Community Empowerment (LPPM IPB), held the Food Products Shelf Life Prediction and Management Training Batch XII. This program was held on 7-9th May 2018 in Belimbing Room, Seafast Center, IPB Baranangsiang Campus. Participants came from diverse backgrounds and institutions, such as industries, academicians, and government bodies.
The program was opened by Prof. Nuri Andarwulan, Head of Seafast Center LPPM IPB, which was followed by a presentation about the change in quality during food products processing and storage.
The training materials about shelf life were presented comprehensively, started from shelf life confirmation and prediction, experimental design to predict shelf life with Arrhenius and Sorpsi Air methods, and lastly the sensory methods to confirm shelf life.
The presentation was delivered in an interesting manner by Dr. Feri Kusnandar, Dr. Elvira Syamsir, Dr. Dede Adawiyah, and Dr. Nur Wulandari. Other than that, a simulation to design shelf life prediction was also conducted. The participants took part in a group discussion talking about study cases of several sets of food products. This three-days training didn't only equip participants with knowledge about shelf life, but also provided a platform to share knowledges between participants who had come from various institutions.
The participants shared about problems they had faced regarding to the topic, thus in this forum they also acquired solutions and learned about the issues other participants had faced. (*/ris)
