Students of the Department of Community Nutrition of FEMA IPB, Created Cookie-Sukak Cookies Made of Breadfruit Flour and Cowpea

Students of the Department of Community Nutrition (GM), of the Faculty of Human Ecology, of Bogor Agricultural University (FEMA IPB) have successfully created cookies made of breadfruit flour and cowpea as its raw materials of. The three students are Khodijah, Bonita Ratnasari, and Fatima Zahra S.

The cookie named Cookie-Sukak, won the 2nd winner for Imatekta Creative Agricultural Engineering Competition 2018, at Jember University. The competition took place on 3-4 March 2018, and was participated by various universities in Indonesia, such as Gajah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Diponegoro University, Brawijaya University, Ten November Institute of Technology, Yogyakarta State University, and so on.

This Cookie-Sukak was produced as the expression for their concern to the problem of malnutrition in Indonesia. In addition, this idea is also motivated by one of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) 2030, i.e. A World Without Hunger.

The advantage of Cookie-Sukak, it uses local ingredients such as breadfruit and cowpea. In addition, the energy content of the cookies 269 kcal, and protein 6.3 grams are higher than the supplementary foods provided by the government. So it can be used as practical dietary management of protein energy malnutrition in young children (PEM).

Our hope in the future Cookie-Sukak products can be developed by the government and serve as a new alternative for supplementary food for children," said Khadija. (Wied)
