Students of Department of Statistics of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Dian Ayuningtyas and Priscilla Yulia, brought the name of IPB at national level. Both of them participated in a competition provided in the 7th Statistics Jamboree, namely Data Analysis Week Competition held at Mulawarman University, Samarinda, East Kalimantan (22-24/3).

From various series of competitions ranging from essay contest to statistics olympiad for high school students, Dian and Priscilla followed Data Analysis branch competition. With the theme "Let's Shining with Statistics", both managed to pass a series of stages in the competition until finally managed to occupy the 2nd Winner in the Data Analysis Competition.

"Preliminary round resulted in 15 teams to compete in the final round in Samarinda," said Dian.

There were two stages in the final round, which were working on problems related to the theory of statistics and presentation of the material that had been analysed in the preliminary round. Dian and Priscilla chosed East Kalimantan's export data from 2000-2017 for their presentation.

Although both are students of Statistics, they still experienced some obstacles in the preparation of the competition, especially in studying statistical materials they have not been previously obtained during the lecture. However, they could overcome the problems with a self-regulated learning strategy.

"I studied multivariate, statistical theories and opportunities materials while Priscilla studied nonparametric, statistical methods and time series. We deliberately shared the tasks for theoretical mastery," explained Dian.

Dian and Priscilla also obtained a bonus to get to know Samarinda deeper. After the competition, the Jamboree Statistics committee also provided a boat facility to explore the Mahakam River.

Dian mentioned that we should sincerely learn whatever field studied, thus, we will not regret at the end.

"Losing or winning is the affairs of sustenance. Of course, we will be grateful if we win. However, it is ok if we lose because we can still experience an extraordinary moment while spending the losing rations. If our losing rations are gone, we will win someday," said Dian with a message for other students to continue studying and getting achievement. (TK)
