IPB Student Becomes the Best Presenter in Japan
A student of the Department of Mechanical and Biosystem Engineering (TMB), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Yudha Putra Arysandy, won the Best Presenter award in Agricultural Cluster at the 15th Hokkaido Indonesian Student Association Scientific Meeting (HISAS 15). The event was organized by the Indonesian Student Union (PPI) in Hokkaido and held in Sapporo-shi, Hokkaido, Japan, on 17-18 March 2018.
Finalists who managed to go to Hokkaido came from IPB, ITP, UB, UNPAD, UNJ, ITS and others. The total was about 44 teams. The theme of HISAS 15 was Integrated Science for Attaining Indonesia's Golden Generation in 2045.
Yudha and his team which consisted of Mu'minah Mustaqimah and Septyani Putri Mahanani created a tool to monitor and record the temperature and humidity in the greenhouse. The name of the tool is Portable Greenhouse Monitoring Device. This tool can inform the temperature, humidity and light intensity by using the sensor.
"The data generated will be recorded periodically through the SD card and the internet. Data recorded include some aspects such as temperature, humidity and light intensity. This allows researchers to monitor activities within the greenhouse. The resulting data can be a reference for giving treatment to plants in the greenhouse," he said.
Moreover, the tool can also distinguish the state of temperature and humidity in two types of greenhouse (one roof opening and two roof openings). Besides being used for research, the detector can also be used by companies that utilize greenhouse or hydroponics system.
Meanwhile, according to Yudha, they got a general lecture from several experts at the first day in Japan. After that, each team presented a paper presentation in front of all participants and examiners.
"On the last day, we visited several places in Sapporo City, namely clean water management office, disaster prevention museum and Sapporo TV Tower," explained Yudha.
Yudha himself was very impressed with the life of Japanese society. He amazed with the orderliness, reading culture and the kindness of Japanese society to the foreigners. The most memorable experience for Yudha was to feel the extreme temperatures that was up to minus five Celsius degrees.
"I am very happy and grateful to join this activity," he said. (TK)
