IPB Students Initiated Application for Upcoming Agricultural World
Sururum Marfuah Hash, student of the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, initiated a digital application integrated using information technology.
Sururum initiated an application named Integrated Geospatial Maps (IGM). Through the idea of ??IGM, this student from Batam was successfully won as a runner-up in the Essay Competition held by Persatuan Pemuda Indonesia (PPI) of Hungary with the theme "The Role of Indonesian Students Towards Gold Indonesia 2045."
"Alhamdulillah, I can pour my ideas for Indonesian agriculture. My essay has been successfully selected from 670 essays indicating that my idea is feasible to be implemented," Sururum said.
The concept of Sururum is a solution to the problems faced by farmers, from production, distribution, affordability, and most importantly for agricultural land management planning that will reduce the risk of crop failure.
"IGM is a digital application designed based on research and technology. IGM obtains data with satellite imagery through remote sensing technology which translates into a map and then the translated digital map will be integrated by Geospatial Information System (GIS) technology which will collect all scattered data to become a multifunctional map in the form of GPS, "he explained.
Uniquely, in this IGM application, there are features that can be used by farmers in monitoring food prices in the market. This is to avoid market speculation by middlemen.
The strategic steps that Sururum has designed to implement IGM's ideas include building partnerships with various elements of society and government.
In addition, it takes a high commitment to make IGM as an alternative solution in making appropriate agricultural management decisions.
"Hopefully this IGM application can be utilized for farmers in facing climate change so we can plan planting time and systematic planting pattern, and also facilitate farmers in monitoring market price. I also hope that my idea can be useful for Islamic civilization which I am sure will be victorious in the future, "Sururum said. (TK)
