Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN Indonesia State Electricity Corporation) in cooperation with seven State Universities (PTN) in Indonesia, namely University of Indonesia (UI), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Diponegoro University (Undip ), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), and Udayana University (Udayana University), which have signed Cooperation Agreement (PKS). The signing of PKS was carried out at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta, 28 February 2018. VVIP guest present in the signing of the agreement,  among other was the Minister of State Owned Enterprises (SOE), Rini M Soemarno.

This cooperation is the implementation of PLN social concern, especially for community development, in research and electricity development of the country. This cooperation includes, among other things, the provision of Certificate of Competency on electricity; research and development in the field of electricity; research and development of electric vehicles; research and development related the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment; innovation in electric transmission and distribution technologies, both nationally and internationally.

The signatories for the PKS were the  President Director of PLN, Sofyan Basir, and other seven universities rectors; Rector of UI,  Prof. Dr. Muhammad Anis; Rector of IPB, Dr. Arif Satria; Rector of ITB, Prof. Dr. Kadarsah Suryadi; Rector of UGM, Prof. Panut Mulyono; Deputy Rector of Undip, Prof. Dr. Ambariyanto; Rector of ITS, Prof. Dr. Joni Hermana; Rector of Unud, Prof. Dr. Anak Agung Raka Sudewi.

In his direction, Minister of SOEs, Rini M Soemarno, said the smooth cooperation process between PLN with seven universities was really the right step. SOEs as agents of change are obliged to create independence and progress of the nation through the empowerment of university intellectuals.

"I am really happy to welcome this kind of cooperation. I even encourage such kind of cooperation should be carried out in other SOEs, by involving more educational world, so that the link and match the world of education and business world in particular, and especially SOEs, really materialized. This is a real contribution of BUMNs for the country," she said.

President Director of PLN, Sofyan Basir, also expressed his strong support for the sustainability of this cooperation program. Sofyan considered that the involvement the youth for the development of electricity infrastructure will push the wheels of the economy.

"One of our partners is the Electric Steam Power Plant of Indonesia, it is a power station in which the electric generator is steam driven. The utilization of domestic products and local expertise certainly will strengthen the national industrial structure, they will create jobs and increase employment opportunities," he said.

The vehicle of SOEs in strengthening their strategic role for the national economic development, is through PLN. This program will actually support and motivate the spirit and the intellectual of students, to earn the opportunity to strive for future success, through Certified Apprenticeship Program. The Registered Apprenticeship system has been utilized to meet the needs of skilled workforce of Indonesia. Certified Apprenticeship Program has the goal to produce competent superior human resources, as early as possible and understand the needs of the business.

This Certified Apprenticeship Program will be implemented in June 2018. The candidates from 7 universities namely ITB, IPB, UI, UGM, UNDIP, ITS and Udayana will be selected for such program. Internship Participants will be provided with competency-based on learning by doing directly under the supervision of qualified mentors for 6 (six) months in PLN units and facilitated to carry out Competency Test according to their field works.
