The Socialization Program on IPB by Students of Bumi Sriwijaya
Ikatan Keluarga Mahasiswa Bumi Sriwijaya (Ikamusi The Association of Students of Bumi Sriwijaya) of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) visited 56 high schools (SMA) in South Sumatra to socialize IPB. More than 1000 students were informed on IPB Admission Systems for new students, faculty and majors offered, as well as life in the university in general, and the insight to agriculture development in Indonesia by IPB students, last January.
The enthusiasm of High School students of South Sumatera were expressed in their open attitude and active discussion with IPB students during the road show. Most of them have high motivation to pursue their higher degree program in IPB.
"Such Road-show is very useful for us, as it provides us to get the first hand information on the university we are interested in. Such program has opened our minds on the agricultural sector that plays a strategic role in the process of economic development of our country, "said Putri Adelia, a student of SMA Negeri 3 Palembang.
According to one of the teachers who attended the Road-show, IPB has established many extensive networks so it will be easier for graduates to get jobs. Even a lot of IPB graduates are working in the upper echelons of business and government institutions.
The interesting thing for this Road-show program, the students had opportunity to share their experiences and information on their beloved campus. It was really the productive vacation for students.
"An unforgettable experience came for the group of students of IPB. For example, the group of IPB came to the wrong school for socialization, instead of visiting the scheduled schools, they went to the unscheduled one. This incident makes students understand the importance of communication before acting. While visiting one school to another school, a minor accident occurred such as they experienced to have flat tire of student's motorcycle. But this minor accident did not reduce the enthusiasm of the group of IPB students to share their experiences and information for their prospective junior students," said Ikamusi Chairman Aldino Sastra Wijaya, a student from the Department of Communication and Community Development, the Faculty of Human Ecology (FEMA).
