Prime, IPB Graduation by New Rector
The Graduation Phase IV in the Academic Year of 2017/2018 was becoming a very special, because the Rector of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Dr. Arif Satria, for the first time graduated the graduates after inaugurated as the Rector in the period of 2017-2022 on the last 15 December 2017. The graduation ceremony was held at Grha Widya Wisuda, Campus of IPB Dramaga, Bogor (17/1).
At this graduation, IPB awarded diplomas to 750 graduates, consisting of 21 graduates holding Doctoral degrees, 191 graduates holding Master of Science degrees, 21 graduates holding Master of Management degrees, 3 graduates holding Professional Master degrees, and 513 graduates holding Sarjana degrees.
On behalf of all academic communities of IPB, the Rector congratulated the graduates on their successful completion of the education. He said, the contribution and role of IPB in the future would be more demanded in the enforcement and the enrichnment of Indonesian society (Social Enrichment), while focusing on the superior quality education for all, the superior and leading research, and being able to be the solution of the nation’s problems.
“The effort to bring the future into the present must be imbued with the spirit of strengthening the university dignity as the pillar of the strength of the scientific and moral integrity, as well as the pillar of the independence to always spread the good and continue to fight for the truth and the justice. Therefore, the campus is not enough just to have the technocratic intelligence, but also the intellectual intelligence and the high sensitivity of the heart, so that it is always sensitive to the problems facing this nation,” he said.
The Rector confirmed, IPB should put forward the latest roles, among them the role of IPB in producing the adaptive superior graduates toward the change that could support the process of the economic transformation more evenly in the era of sharing economy, through the growth of tehcnopreneur with the start-up business and the socio-preneur in the development of community through the innovations generated. IPB was the fertile breeding ground for the prospective leaders of the nation.
“One of the new things that will do in 2018 is to open a new path of the entry selection of IPB, namely the path of Chairman of OSIS or the leadership talent path. In 2018, IPB will invite the Chairmen of OSIS from the best SMA in Indonesia to continue study in IPB. IPB will hone their potential for us to become the candidates of the nation’s leaders, both in the fields of technopreneur, technocrat, sociopreneur, and in other fields,” he said.
The Rector added, in 2018 IPB would also open the international class as a form of our commitment to increasingly global. Of course the regular channels such as the National Selection to Enter the State University (SNMPTN) and the Joint Selection to Enter the State University (SBMPTN), and other independent pathwars we continued to hold by continuing to improve the quality of the prospective students. “Therefore, I hope that all graduates can become the ambassadors of IPB to promote IPB. Inviting friends and relatives to register to become the candidate students of IPB, and inviting the Chairmen of OSIS to join IPB,” he added.
Another role of IPB was that in the development of the latest scholarly (frontiers) it should be part of the solution to all real issues in the community as well as to become the main reference in the field of tropical agriculture, marine, and bioscience both nationally and globally. Recent scholarly such as the data sciences was growing. Insya Allah in 2018, it would soon stand the Center for Sustainability Science and the Halal Center.
Furthermore, the role of the research of IPB, was directed to generate the concrete innovation in moving the people’s economy in the sectors of agriculture, livestock, forestry, and marine as well as strengthening the national industry. IPB would always be present in the middle of farmers, fishermen, ranchers, communities around the forest to strengthen the food sovereignty, the energy, the maritime, and the environment.
Last or the fourth role of IPB was that in determining the direction of national development policy it should be filled with the spirit of alignment to the farmers, the ranchers, the fishermen, and the communities around the forest.
The Rector explained, IPB in ten consecutive years (2008-2017), became the largest contributor of the innovation in the List of Indonesia’s Most Prospective Innovations published by Business Innovation Center (BIC) Indonesia in cooperation with the Ministry of Research and Technology / Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) / Indonesian Institute of Sciences, which was 407 innovations or 38.9 percent of the total of 1,045 innovations of Indonesia. At the age of 54, IPB had carved many prestigious achievements, IPB became one of the 100 best Universities in the world version of QS World University Ranking by Subject, namely Agriculture and Forestry. On 17 August 2017, IPB reached the 3rd rank after UGM and ITB in the cluster of PTN Indonesia organized by Kemenristekdikti RI. IPB was also awarded the 1st National Widyapadhi Award from Kemenristekdikti RI as a tribute to the effort of IPB to develop the innovation and the commercialization of the innovation.
“It is also encouraging, the rank of IPB in Asia based on the Asia University Ranking (AUR) rises sharply from the rank of 191 last year to become the rank of 147 this year. Other than that, the accreditation of IPB based on BAN-PT has got the final score of 376 with the Accreditation A, this value is the best achievement achieved by IPB,” said the Rector.
The Rector hoped that the graduates could work in the middle of community to get a glorious future. For alumni of IPB, it could continue to improve and develop the existing cooperation for the progress of the alma mater. Up to the graduation at this stage, IPB had 149,643 alumni.(Awl)
