The IPB Student Who Serves the Community through Community Service Programs

Community service is a non-paying job performed by one person or a group of people for the benefit of the community or its institutions. Performing community service is not the same as volunteering, since it is not always performed on a voluntary basis. A great example of community service is to actively participate in social activities. This type of service was performed by Fifi Muslimah, one of the Ambassadors of Agricultural Institute Bogr (IPB) from the Department of Family and Consumer Science (IKK) of the Faculty of Human Ecology of Bogor Agricultural University (FEMA IPB).

In the first year of university, when she was freshman Fifi participated in Birena activities, the social program activities planned and under the responsibility of the Al-Hurriyyah Mosque Prosperity Council (DKM). This social program concentrates on children's education. Pursuing passion can mean different things to different people, for Fifi her passion for family and children caused her excited about the program. Especially after being accepted as newly student of the Department of IKK which facilitate the students to go directly to the field, such as visiting early childhood, kindergarten, elementary, posyandu, or even meet and discuss directly with the mother  in the community.

"When I see kids, I see my future in your eyes. They are the next generation of the nation. Therefore it is appropriate they get good parenting and teaching, "said Fifi.

This student the Department of IKK, who is Nusantara Activist Scholarship awardee, and also has been active as the volunteer at Gerakan Cinta Anak Tani (GCAT) Movement, it is  the  social program activities of this funding organization. Through GCAT, Fifi together other  scholarship recipients conduct training and coaching courses for high school students of XII class form farmers' families and who are deemed less financially viable. The aim of the project is to prepare students ready to compete for pursuing into universities.

The spirit of Fifi does not stop there. She also became a member of volunteer in various other social activities. The other social activities she participates are Gerakan Cerdas Iklim (GCI Climate Smart Movement) and Cikarawang Volunteers.

"GCI activities include teaching kids about the importance of conservation, as well as teaching environmental literacy in schools, both curative and preventive after disaster and prevention of communicable diseases after disaster.  While Cikarawang Volunteers is an activity to teach to orphans in the village Cikarawang," she said.

Although active in various social activities, they do not dampen the achievements of Fifi. Some achievements have been made by Fifi, among other as Student of the Year of the Department of IKK; EXAP delegation 2017 at Seoul National University of South Korea; Delegation of Indonesia for Youth Forum 2017 in Yogyakarta; and became the MTQ MN XV delegation in Malang.
