First Time, Unpolluted Seaweed Pomade by IPB Researcher

Starting from the availability of the abundant seaweed,  Prof.Dr. Nurjanah, Lecturer of Department of Aquatic Product Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK of IPB) created an innovation that was PORL, the pomade based on the local seaweed. The pomade was made from the seaweed porridge which was efficacious as a healthy hair style. This pomade was made from the best formulation with the additional ingredients in accordance with BPOM and SNI standard.

“The making process of PORL begins with the mixing of the beeswax, the vaseline, the seaweed porridge, the castor oil, the hazelnut oil through a medium-heat heating process, furthermore the addition of the dye as well as the desired fragrance. The final stage is the process of printing in the container and then packed with the installation of stickers,” she said last Saturday (12/8)

The pomade excess was in addition to the use of the seaweed porridge with various variations also the use of the natural materials of the castor oil and the olive oil. These natural ingredients including the seaweed were rich in active ingredients necessary for healthy hair growth and much more.

The pomade with the seaweed porridge that combined the red seaweed with the brown seaweed made the hair more sparkling, stylish, healthy and helped in the hair growth that was packed in various variations.

"So, our pomade production is available with different flavors as well as different stiffness levels of the hair such as soft, medium, hard, and extra hard adapted to one’s hair type," added Prof. Nurjanah.

In the production process, the pomade was made without producing the waste because all components of the seaweed were used. This was one of the efforts in providing the economic value to the grass while maintaining the environmental sustainability. The seaweed pomade had been marketed in various regions in Indonesia at the price of Rp. 75,000 – 80,000.

"The total production of PORL is more than 300 pcs and has been sold in various regions in Indonesia. We also market them online. If in the instagram, the people can order in @pomaderumputlaut. We also market it in various online media such as Bukalapak, tokopedia, and facebook," explained Director of Seaweed House (RRL), Ryan Fachrozan in a written interview.(SM/Zul)
