Masyarakat Iktiologi Indonesia (MII) / Indonesian Society of Ichthyology held the National Symposium on Fish and Fisheries (SIPP) 2017 in Sekolah Tinggi Perikanan / High School of Fisheries (STP) of Department of Fisheries Extension, Bogor (12-13/9). In this 2017, SIPP raised the theme of “Enhancing Fisheries Management and Biodiversity Conservation of Coastal Fish and Ecosystems in Indonesia“. This theme was one step further than the previous SIPP theme.

The Chairman of MII which also the Professor of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Prof.Dr. Sulistiono, said that the symposium was the container to publish the research results on the fish and the fisheries. Other than that, with the existence of this symposium, it would be intertwined for the friendship among the researchers / fish activitists all over Indonesia, so it could provide the widest benefit, both in science and economics when later research results were used.

Present on this occasion was the member of DPR of RI Commission IV, Dr. H.E. Herman Khaeron, who hoped the information and usefulness of the research in this symposium could be disseminated, especially by the extension workers to the community.

This symposium was followed by 170 speakers, 50 participants, and 50 invited guests consisting of the lecturers, the senior researchers, and the students. They were from Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, and Papua.

The Chairman of the committee, Charles PH Simanjuntak, PhD, said that the enthusiastic students to participate in publishing their research through SIPP 2017 were quite large. One of them was Aldi Candra K, the student of Department of Water Resource Management, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) of IPB. He conveyed the research about the composition and strategy of the fish food pattern.

The symposium series was among others the Focus Group Discussion (FGD). One of the presented resource persons was the Dean of FPIK of IPB, Dr. Luky Adrianto. (IS)
