The “Embedded Librarian” Made IPB Librarian Won the First Winner of Outstanding Academician 2017
The remarkable developments in science and technology increasingly sophisticated increasingly sophisticated, it is challenge for a librarian catch up. A librarian should continue to innovate, improve the ability to mastery of information technology and breast up with the development of science and knowledge in the digital era. Irma Elvina, S. Sos, MP (47 years old) has won the 1st winner for the Achievement for category Academic Librarian of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) in 2017. Irma is the reference service coordinator who has been active in IPB Library for 25 years, she has been serving the university since 1992.
Equipped with portfolio, essay and creative work, Irma prompted herself to join the selection of Achieving Academician of IPB in 2017.
"Actually, becoming the first winner is a bit burden because she should fight forward to the national level," she explained, on unday, 13August 2017. Advanced selection will be conducted by Kemenristekdikti to select the best librarian among university’s librarians all over Indonesia.
Irma wrote an innovative work on "Embedded Librarian : Tantangan dan Implementasi bagi Pustakawan Referensi di Perpustakaan Perguruan Tinggi (Embedded Librarian: Challenges and Implementation for Reference Librarians in the College Library)".
Irma explained that the basic idea of her creative work is that a librarian should grow with her parent agency, and to support in the required data and information as a basis for decision making.
"The embedded librarian is the librarian who knows what to do to support the movements and steps of the parent agency in this case IPB." The support the needed data and information which become intellectual property of IPB, and to disseminate them for beneficial of the communities, "she said.
As a reference service coordinator, Irma daily’ job is in charge of coordinating referral service activities such as conducting retrieval of literature, managing online services, conducting information literacy activities by conducting user education for library users.
Her principle “do as best as possible”. For her to be a librarian is really a funny profession especially it is related with her hobby.
"My basic is my reading habits, it's nice to teach people who do not know to know and to understand, especially if I know first," she said.
Of course, I have a lot of challenges, especially anticipate that the technological developments of the near future will have a net positive impact on society. To deal with it, the mother of one son continues to learn in order to adapt to the development of the digital era. (Wied)
