Seaweed House IPB Produces Non-Waste Masker
The cosmetics sector in Indonesia has been growing at a fast pace in tandem with the rapid development of the Indonesian economy in recent years. Accordingly, cosmetic products on the market with various brands is increasing, but only few of them are equipped with guarantee Information of product usage. She explained that seaweed is featured ingredient in all her products. This cosmetic is produced using red seaweed (E cottonii) and brown seaweed (Padina sp and Turbinaria sp).
"Seaweeds are a good source of colloidal materials which are used as gelling agents, emulsifiers, stabilizers, in pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food products. Thus, the raw materials of the cosmetic she produced is made of locally available seaweed porridge in Indonesian waters, the raw materials used have been formulated and have been testing the content of bioactive components. They are in accordance with the standards set by BPOM and SNI cosmetics," she explained.
Prof. Nurjanah explained that seaweed is featured ingredient in all her cosmetic products, and it has both the social and economic impact of the national development.
"Seaweed-based cosmetics products are expected to become the superior product to be marketed for segmented market. This product is also synergize with the mission of Indonesia to become increasingly important, particularly for high-technology SMEs that must have competitive products under MEA (Economic Community of ASEAN)," he said.
Currently natural maskers from seaweed are produced in Rumah Rumput Laut (RRL) located in Kavling Anggraeni Blok A, RT 5 RW 3, Cihideung Ilir Village, Ciampea. This business has earned the status of Prospective Beginner Technology-Based Company (CBPPT) granted by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Directorate of Higher Education.
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the processing of seaweed. RRL does not only sell natural masker. There are four products developed namely Pomade, Lipbalm, and sunscreen creams. The price is affordable, only 15,000 (fifteen thousand) rupiah per/box containing 5 (five) sachets of maskers.
