Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK IPB) in cooperation with PT. Jababeka and President Executive Club have bridged the dialogue between academia, fisheries business and government to discuss the utilization of fish resources for the welfare of the nation through business process. The event has been packaged in a Business Forum entitled 'Potential of Fish Resources and Fishery Business Opportunities'. The event was organized at the Executive Development Training Center (EDTC) of Center for Coastal and Marine Resource Studies (PKSPL) of Institute for Research and Community Service of (LPPM) IPB, Baranangsiang Campus, Bogor, on 19 September 2017.

Dean of FPIK IPB, Dr. Luky Adrianto, stated that there must be a balanced forum in running the fishery business. "In the fishery business we can’t put aside the  ecosystems, resources, potential catches, harvesting strategies and mapping of potential stocks of catches. Therefore, scientific knowledge is really required to answer the issues," he said.

According to him, there is a connection between business, market, science and protocol, so they can’t work individually. All must be integrated and synergized, support each other and complement each other.

This business forum aims to complement and provide input from the policies taken. The present business meeting will provide media for constructive two-way communication, establishing scientific communication networks.

Director of PT. Jababeka, Setyono Djuandi Darmono, added that this forum has been very important and necessary. Therefore, he is very supportive for the establishment of the integrated and synergized Academics, Businessman, Government, and Communities (ABGC) meeting in each region.

"Businessmen are often dizzy with the issuance of the government policies. This needs to be communicated. Therefore, such discussion meeting will be a good solution, they understand the current conditions of entrepreneurs, and they understand what the government needs. I suggest that the ABGC be established in every region, educational institutions help find a way out. Related to international trade, Indonesia must establish international relationship with foreign countries. We should not be considered an anti-foreign commerce attitude, nationalism is important but it does not mean narrow nationalism," he explained.

Accuracy of data related to the number of import export targets was discussed in this forum. Andi, representative of entrepreneurs for the cultivation sector submitted inputs related to the great opportunities that must be cultivated Indonesia from the fish farming sector.

Andi said the fish farming sector has not been practiced in Indonesia highly. He considered China could be the world number one for aquaculture fisheries, mostly their  fish products are not from capture fisheries, but produces by its aquaculture businesses. Though Indonesia has much larger water footprints than the world's most populous nations, China.

Attending the event were representatives of the Association of Integrated Capture Fisheries (ASPERTADU), Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, academicians of FPIK IPB, USAID-SEA, Directorate of Marine and Fisheries, and Central Sulawesi Provincial Government. (Wied)
