Pottery Artwork As Additional Source Income in the Prosperity Program for Widows in Bogor

Two students of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB Bogor Agricultural University), Nur Badri and Ahmad Trijunianto, who successfully recorded their names for the achievements in the Indonesia Youth Festival of Science Event late last year. Their poster on socio-cultural environment successfully won the second winner in competition held by Scientific Student Activity Unit and Scientific Reasoning (UKM KPI) of Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) Makassar.

Both students took their work special program on Kutanda: Kurikulum Tembikar ala Kaum Janda = Curriculum Pottery of the Widows, as a program for pottery Artwork preservation in Bogor regency. Namely a program that aims to increase the economy of widows in Bogor regency as well as preserving pottery artwork which is almost extinct in today's society.

"We use the Curriculum Based Learning approach (pembelajaran kurikulum) with the Epesi method. Epesi is a combination of education, modeling and realization through the role triangle cycle of widows, innovation developers and distributors. One of them is by the provision of training course on pottery for widows who live in Bogor Regency, "said Nur Badri when he interviewed recently.

Pottery having functions almost the same as or earthenware pottery or ceramics, but pottery is more inclined to use than as a home or decoration. Pottery of container made of clay and they must be heated to temperatures that will achieve the transformation from raw clay to ceramic.

In the past, most Indonesians used pottery as one of their household tools. Like a jar to keep water, kendi or Jug (pitcher) to keep their potable water,  kuali a pot for cooking vegetable for and so on. Now there are a variety of pottery which have additional functions,  they are sold as pottery artworks.

"This pottery artwork has become source of additional income for widows, in addition this program will also preserving the Sundanese pottery art from extinction," he said. (Wied)
