Faculty Member of IPB Disseminates Directly to the Communities the Innovations He Made

Dr. Suryahadi is one of is a passionate man who has devoted his life to improving animal husbandry in Indonesia through innovative researches. He is the faculty member of the Faculty of Animal Science of Bogor Agricultural University (FAPET IPB) and became the Director of the Pusat Studi Hewan Tropika (CENTRAS Center for Tropical Animal Studies) of Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) IPB.

The faculty member who is familiarly called Mr. Surya, believes that innovative research results in addition to education should be used for devotion. "Innovation must be passed on the communities. The academicians must be able to implement the integrated University’ Tri Dharma High, "he said.

The gentleman who is native to Mataram grew up among families of educators. Due to his best achievements from elementary to high school, he was admitted into the IPB through the SNMPTN Invitation System. Subsequently he received the scholarship to pursue his graduate studies program  in France, completing his master degree (S2) and doctoral degree (S3) from Universite des Sciences and Technique, Mont Pellier II,  France.

"I had difficulty in the beginning to study at IPB, because many materials are basically new to me, I don’t have them in high school. But after pursuing into the  Faculty of Animal Science, with confidence and perseverance I finally able to compete with others,  even I successfully applied for scholarship to pursue my higher degree program in France, "he said.

By the time he was returning home for serving his country, he had the predicate as the  youngest doctoral graduate among IPB lecturers. Even when he had been busy teaching university students, he actively made innovations. Some of the innovations he made were selected among the  list of innovations in the most prospective Indonesian Innovations in 2015. In the year 2000, he was awarded the  Satyalancana Karya Satya for his 20 Years of dedication as government civil servant by the Indonesian government.

Currently he takes the post as the Head of the Center for Tropical Animal Study (CENTRAS) of LPPM IPB. Under the Center, he has made innovations in the field of livestock and have been disseminated for the farming communities. Various innovations such as Hi-Fer +, Feed Block Supplements (FBS), Supplements Rich Nutrients (SKN), Complete Livestock Wafer, Palatibility Enhancer, and many others had been made.

Various livestock innovations have been disseminated and diffused through community empowerment programs, carried out in almost all regions of Indonesia. Very often he left his family, though they really need him, because he has to travel around Indonesia to run the empowerment program. These are his commitments to disseminate  innovations made by IPB for the community development.

To implement his mission, he invites various parties to cooperate. Any time he plans to establish empowerment program, he always invite and encourage government, village officials, private companies, and students involves on the program. The friendly figure invite many of his students involves in his research and devotion activities. He believes that it is important to invite students to study, because one day they will become partners in developing Indonesian agriculture. (Wied)
