The involvement of the students and the lecturers of FKH of IPB in assisting the Office of Livestock and related agencies to jointly escort the sacrifice worship had lasted approximately 15 years. “In the early days we send the students, the community is still so closed to the advice given. However, now the arrival of the student is welcomed, and every direction given related to the health of sacrificial animal always gets the full attention of the community,” said the Dean of FKH of IPB, Prof.Dr.drh. Srihadi Agung Priyono.

He said, ahead of Idul Adha this year it had many incoming mails addressed to FKH of IPB from various areas to ask the students of FKH to send and monitor the sacrificial animals in their areas. However, the request was not entirely met, because of the limited number of the workforce.

To answer the limited workforce, FKH of IPB provided the educational path to the board of Dewan Kemakmuran Masjid (DKM) located in Bogor area. The development related to the animal welfare, the animal and meat healths, as well as the technical implementation of the animal slaughter which was usually done in the mosques built by DKM. The education was carried out to increase the community independence and capability in preparing the optimal service when the day of the slaughter of the sacrifice animal arrived.

Before leaving for each assignment area, the students consisting of the students of D3, S1, and Co-Assistant of Veterinary Medicine were given the briefing on their works in the field. In addition to conducting the animal and meat health checks, the students also collected the actual information in the field related to the slaughtering of the sacrifice animals as the evaluation material for the Office of Livestock in each region. “Besides being needed and helping the community, there is a direct monitoring by the students of FKH of IPB which also is a separate learning for the students who jump into the field,” said Prof. Srihadi.(EAW/NM)
