Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH IPB) organized the first National Symposium on Pharmacology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with the theme "Eksplorasi Substitusi Antimikrobial Growth Promotor (AGP) untuk Menunjang Kesehatan Semesta Exploration of Antimicrobial Growth Promoter (AGP) Substitution to Support Universal Health", at the Andi Hakim Nasoetion Auditorium,  IPB Campus, Dramaga, Bogor, on 19 -20 July 2017. Involved in the symposium various parties consisting of academicians, practitioners, farmers / breeders, researchers, businessmen, and governments which are interested in the development of antimicrobial substitution and countermeasures against Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP) resistance.

Chairman of the Organizing Committee, drh. Min Rahminiwati, MS, stated that the  symposium was the media for prime activity and gathering event and discussion for academians, government and companies. The objectives of the symposium were to discuss and to find out  the solution for the latest issues related to the health and veterinary medicine problems globally, particularly the growing resistance of Antibiotic Growth Promoter (AGP). The solution will be AGP and antimicrobial substitution.

"It is expected that the symposium we hope will find the solution to encounter the development of AGP and antimicrobial resistance. The long-term goal of this activity is to provide health care program in Indonesia, allowing people to stay healthy and live longer, "he said.

The Dean of FKH IPB, Prof. Dr. Drh. Srihadi Agungpriyono said, antimicrobial is the main drug used to treat various diseases in animals and humans. These drugs are commonly used as disease therapy, disease prevention, and growth promoters or often called AGP.

He said, the uncontrolled utilization of antibiotics and not in accordance with the procedure is still quite high in the animal husbandry world, resulting in microbial resistance to the antibiotic. Similarly, it  is very difficult to reduce the use of AGP or even alone prevented. This problem requires a solution in the form of products that can spur livestock growth without causing resistance.

He added that government, private and academicians play important role as a pioneer in the control of antimicrobial resistance. The government's role is to formulate policies on the restrictions on the use of antibiotics and to facilitate agencies to find AGP substitutions; The private sector plays its role to provide, produce and distribute AGP substitution products; The role of universities is to conduct research to find this AGP substitution in accordance with Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, namely education, research and community service.

This symposium presents reliable speakers in the veterinary field, namely drh. Yurike Elisadewi Ratnasari, M.Si (Directorate General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia); Dr. Drh. Heru Setijanto, PAVet (K) (Chairman of the Indonesian Veterinary Association); Drh.
