The Contribution of IPB for the Development of Animal Logistics of Indonesia
The livestock sector globally is highly dynamic. In Indonesia, it is evolving in response to rapidly increasing demand for livestock products. Indonesia's demand for poultry meat is expected to continue growing. However, the high level of demand for livestock products is not supported by the well-managed of supply distribution which leads to high logistics costs. Constraints in the development of livestock logistics are infrastructure, management and human resources.
Faculty of Animal Husbandry IPB (FAPET IPB) as an educational and research institution has been committed to contribute in the development of animal logistics in Indonesia. "According to FAPET IPB, logistics is not just moving livestock products from one place to another, but it is related aspect of safety and security of foods," explained Dr. Yamin as Dean of FAPET IPB.
IPB has opened S1 plus Program for Animal Logistics, which aims to produce competent graduates who will be able implement their science and technology in animal husbandry, as well as their expertise, and knowledge for the development of animal logistics. The establishment of this S1 Program is supported by the Indonesian Logistics Association (ALI). "ALI will supports the study program by providing guest lecturers from ALI members related to logistics if required", explains Mr. Zaldy the Chairman of ALI during the meeting with FAPET IPB team, on February 2017.
The initial course of the Undergraduate Plus for Animal Logistics program will be started at the beginning of the new academic year 2017-2018, in July 2017. Animal logistics is a multidisciplinary science, including livestock science, logistics, processing, cold chain technology, economics and retailing. Therefore the S1 Plus Program is open for fresh graduate or working students of S1 from relevant majors (Animal Husbandry, Veterinary, Logistics, Transportation, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Consumer Science and Family) or.

• The prospective students of S1 Plus on Animal Logistics will be coached by the faculty members all of whom are well-qualified in their fields, in animal products as commodities and animal logistics, and some have brought with them long mileage of practice background. Animal logistics is a much more complicated than other logistics activity in the field of logistics. However, such combination has enabled us to consistently ensure our course are kept updated..
• The normal study load of S1 Plus on Animal Logistics in IPB shall be one (1) semester, three (3) months in class, three (3) months of internship at companies participating in FLPI (Indonesian Livestock Logistics Forum). The importance of competence certification in animal logistics will obviously affect and guarantee against the holder or stakeholders. Certification of competence is the recognition of human resources who have competence and knowledge, skills and work attitude in accordance with the standards of work competence required by livestock industry.
