Biopharmaca Research Center Organized Workshop on Bioinformatika
Biopharmaca Research Center (Biopharmaca) of the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment (LPPM) of IPB (Bogor Agricultural University) organized Workshop on Bioinformatics (Network Pharmacology), on Monday-Tuesday, 7-8 March 2017, in IPB Campus, Taman Kencana, Bogor. The Director of Biopharmaca, Dr. Irmanida Batubara, SSi., MSi, stated that objectives of the workshop are to share experiences among scientists of Biopharmaca, and disseminate current information on Bioinformatics. It is the application of information technology to the study of living things, usually at the molecular level. Bioinformatics involves the use of computers to collect, organize and use biological information to answer questions in fields like evolutionary biology, for pubic.
On this occasion, the participants were informed on the process to determine a candidate drugs by Pharmacology Network approach (Systems pharmacology which utilizes network analysis of drug action as one of its approaches). In addition, the participants were also given opportunity to learn the appropriate techniques by utilizing computer programs to select the excellence materials for their successful research programs.
The workshop will help the Biopharmaca of LPPM IPB to acquire the tools and techniques needed to provide opportunity to be excellent National Center for Tropical Biofarmaka. Of course to the excellent Center it should be supported by competent scientists in its field, as well as top quality laboratories equipment and rich of natural resources. Biopharmaca of LPPM IPB starts from growing its medicinal plants (raw materials), harvesting, and turning into medicinal product using standardized technology. "We must ensure that our products are of high quality and have superior efficacy," she said.
Five speakers were invited for the workshop, as follows: 1. Dr. Eng. Wisnu Ananta Kusuma ST.,MT, the Executive Secretary of Biopharmaca presented on “Konsep Graph Mining dan Implementasinya dalam Network Pharmacology (Graph Mining Concept and Implementation in Network Pharmacology)”; 2. Mr. Rudi Heryanto, S.Si, M.Sc, Head of Laboratory Biopharmaca presented on “Multi Komponen Multi Target dan Sinergisitas dalam Jamu ( obat herbal) (The Concept of Multi Components Multi Target for the synergy in Jamu) (herbal medicine); 3. Husnul Khotimah, S. Kom, M. Kom, Lecturer of the Department of Computer Science of the Faculty Mathematics and Natural Sciences of IPB (FMIPA), presented on “Eksplorasi dan Analisis Network Pharmacology dengan Aplikasi Cytoscape (Exploration and Pharmacology Network Analysis by Cytoscape Applications) (http://www.cytoscape.org/); 4. Dr. Setyanto Tri Wahyudi, Lecturer of the Department of Computer Science of FMIPA IPB, presented on Pencarian dan Prediksi Keterhubungan Tanaman Herbal dan Penyakit Menggunakan “Ijah Webserver” (Searching and Predictions on the Relation between Herbs and Disease Using "Ijah Webserver") (Applications made IPB: http: //ijah.apps.cs.ipb.ac.id/); and Mr. Vector Dewanto, ST., M.Eng, Lecturer of the Department of Computer Science of FMIPA IPB, presented on Molecular Docking.
This workshop was attended by 15 participants, consisted of academicians, researchers and practitioners. They were from the University of Indonesia, Pancasila University, Brawijaya University, Airlangga University, Department of Pharmacy of the University of Islam Indonesia, Universitas Kristen Indonesia, and PT. Phapros Tbk. At the end of the Workshop, the participants were given opportunity to do the practical works. (Wied)
