Thousands of PPKU Students of IPB Went to Villages Around Campus for Their Field Works
A total of 1,650 (one thousand six hundred and fifty) students of Program Pendidikan Kompetensi Umum (PPKU General Competence Education Program) of Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB Bogor Agricultural University) was dispatched into villages around the campus recently. They sent into three villages, namely Cikarawang, Situ Gede, and Balumbang Jaya Villages respectively to interact and observe, and assist the communities in developing their agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, education, and provide extension services on the hygiene.
Deputy Director for Education and Student Affairs of PPKU IPB, Dr. Donny Citra Lesmana, said that the such PPKU Field Work program was planned to implement the Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi (Three Pillars of Tertiary Education), namely community service. "Therefore, the students are sent to villages around the campus to apply the subjects they have been learning and to get first hand information on the life of farmers, especially how they struggle to cultivate their crops in the small area of land," he said.
The program was the joint program between PPKU with the Directorate General for Education and Student Affairs of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (KEMENRISTEKDIKTI) RI. (Wied)
