Importance of the Monitoring of Health and Care for the Urban Tree

Division of City Forest and Environmental Service, Department of Forest Resource Conservation and Ecotourism (DKSHE), Faculty of Forestry (Fahutan), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) held “Pelatihan Pengenalan Monitoring Kesehatan dan Perawatan Pohon Perkotaan / Training on the Introduction of the Monitoring of Health and Care for the Urban Tree” in Meeting Room of Komodo of DKSHE. Head of Division, Prof.Dr. Lilik  Budi Prasetyo, explained that this activity was the part of the Program of the Development of the Division Mandate for Relevance and Innovation. 

He said, the trees had multiple benefits both on ecological, economic and socio-cultural aspects.  The trees would not provide the maximum benefit if the trees were not healthy. Therefore, the trees’ health needed to be monitored and treated if being ill. “This training is the introduction, which is certainly in the future it can be followed up with the trainings which are more specific and having more practices,” he said. 

This training was followed by 20 participants who came from various institutions / agencies namely PT. Krakatau Steel Tbk, Sub Office of Forestry – Office of Maritime, Agriculture and Resilience of DKI Jakarta, Office of Hygiene and Landscape Gardening of Depok City, Environmental Management Agency (BPLH) of Bogor City, Tree Climbers Indonesia (TCI), Cluster Team of Arboriculture Research-IPB, Office of Foresry of Malang District, Educational Forest of Gunung Walat (HPGW), Students of Postgraduate Program of IPB of SP Tropical Silviculture and  SP Tropical Biodiversity Conservation.  

The training was given by five resource persons, namely Dr. Siti Badriyah Rushayati (Material: Pengenalan Ekosistem Perkotaan / Introduction of Urban Ecosystem); Dr. Rachmad Hermawan (Material: Faktor-faktor yang Mempengaruhi Kesehatan Pohon Perkotaan;  Pengenalan Arborikultur / Factors Affecting the Health of Urban Tree; the Introduction of the Arboriculture); Dr. Elis Nina Herliyana (Material: Identifikasi Jenis-jenis Kerusakan dan  Monitoring Kesehatan Pohon / Identification of the Types of Damages and the Tree Health Monitoring);   Dr. Lina Karlinasari (Material: Deteksi Pohon Berbahaya  (Hazard Tree) di Ruang Publik / Detection of Hazardous Tree in the Public Space); and Dr. Endes N. Dahlan (Material: Perawatan Pohon Perkotaan / Care for the Urban Tree).***
