FEMA IPB Calls the Communities of Villages Around Campus to be Aware of Good Nutrition for Their Children

 Fakultas Ekologi Manusia (FEMA = Faculty of Human Ecology), Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB = Bogor Agricultural University) in cooperation with PT. Sarihusada Generation Mahardhika had  launched the program on community nutrition education " Saung Ayo Melek Gizi (Saung AMG) (let’s improve our awareness on nutrition)", on Thursday, 7 April 2016. The event took place in Saung Sabilulungan, Kampung Carangpulang RT.03 / 04, Cikarawang Village, and Saung Mutiara, Ciherang Peuntas RT.03 / 05, Ciherang Village District of Dramaga. 
 
Team Leader of AMG Saung, Dr. Sri Anna Marliyati, expressed her sincere thank to PT. Sarihusada as this company entrusted this AMG activity for such team. She stated that  PT. Sarihusada developed physical infrastructure as a means for nutritional education for the community to come together to talk about child nutrition in those two villages, Ciherang Cikarawang. 
 
She explained that the AMG Saung has been carrying out activities for three years. In the first year, they developed Community Education Center in FEMA IPB and it had successfully educated 200 Posyandus, and 200 community leaders of villages around the around the campus. As a result, The multiplying impacts, the trained cadres successfully educated 4,000 (four thousand) mothers in 91 IHC around the campus perimeter.
 
In the 2nd year, effort had been made  to improve the facilities for the  IHC educated by FEMA, namely Posyandu Mawar of Cikarawang village, and IHC Kamper of Ciherang Village. Further, in the 3rd year the company is in the process to establish productive enterprises in the two villages educated by FEMA, namely  Cikarawang village to produce  yogurt, and Ciherang village to produce  nuggets and taro wajit.
 
Dean FEMA IPB, Dr. Arif Satria, stated that providing nutritional education to the community consistently has been the competence of FEMA IPB, that include  family nutrition education, family and consumer sciences education, and communication and community development.
 
"IPB will continue to empower and foster community and encourage mothers to improve their knowledge on balanced nutrition. In addition, the AMG Saung will also teache how to prepare healthy and nutritious menu, as well as to educate them to develop productive enterprises. We are ready to channelize their products in canteens around the Faculty, "she said.
 
Yet, the Senior Manager of Corporate Communication of PT Sarihusada, Arif Mujahidin, stated that issue on the right kinds of child nutrition for infants and children remains one of the biggest challenges. "This Nutrition Awareness Program will support the Increasing Awareness of the  community to have balanced and healthy diet, especially their children. It is expected that parents are aware of the importance of balanced nutrition for their children to grow, "he explained.
 
Head of Cikarawang Village, Sapturi Wijaya, stated that according to the  communities, the  most important thing for them the foods must be  tasty, they don’t care on the nutritional intake for the food they consume. "With the assistance extension program of  FEMA IPB, hopefully the communities of villages around IPB campus will be aware the importance of good nutrition, thus, there won’t be no more malnourished children in the near future," he hoped.
