Forum Pimpinan Lembaga Pendidikan Tinggi Kehutanan Indonesia (FOReTIKA -Forum of Chairman of Higher Education Institutions on Forestry in Indonesia) organized the  workshop on "Pengembangan Pendidikan Tinggi Kehutanan – the Development of Higher Education on Forestry". This two-day workshop, 4-5 December 2015, was held at the Faculty of Forestry (FAHUTAN IPB) campus, Dramaga, Bogor.
 
On this special occasion, the Dean of the Faculty of Forestry of IPB, Dr. Rinekso, explained that the annual meeting is organized to determine the minimum standards of professional education in forestry. "In order to decide the minimum standards of professional education in forestry in Indonesia, therefore recommendations for the future direction of forestry development are really required, "explained Dr. Rinekso.
 
Various resource persons from the government, private sector and industry were invited for this workshop. "Resource persons of the government, especially from the Ministry  was invited to present the future policy on the qualifications and competence of the required personnel on the forestry. In addition, resource person from private sector, from the forestry companies, were also invited to define specific requirement for job seekers they will need in the future, "he added.
 
Further, Dr. Rinekso explained that the future forestry curriculum should be adapted to the four essential standards, the  strong basic forestry science, forestry education for prospective scholars on forestry to meet their  personnel needs, as I reality not all forestry graduates work in the forestry sectors.
 
Third, the forestry curriculum adaptation to current issues, forests are important with respect to global climatic patterns through their role in sequestering and storing carbon, which can help to mitigate the potential effects of climate change. Finally, the standard requirement for the expected development of science and technology on forestry. "Those required standards will discussed in this two-day meeting," he said.
 
Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, was also there to grace the occasion. In his remarks he stated that FOReTIKA is expected to produce a curriculum that will be  relevant to current needs.
 
Further rector hopes that higher education will create a model for the sustainable management of public forests, where a national strategy for sustainable development Indonesia will be applied for the welfare of society. "Higher institution on forestry should be able to produce the winning team, forestry scholars who are competent in the management of sustainable land and forest management," stated rector. (Wied)
