The Council of Professors (DGB)  of IPB (Bogor Agricultural University) in collaboration with the Akademi Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (AIPI – Indonesian Academy of Sciences) organized the seminar on  "Pengembangan Keilmuan Menyongsong Seabad Indonesia Merdeka (The Scientific Development of Indonesia Toward the Century of its Freedom)", on Monday, 5 October 2015. Seminar was held at the Meeting Room of IPB Senate of Andi Hakim Nasution Building, Dramaga Campus Bogor. It was attended by dozens of young scientists consisting of lecturers and students of the School of Graduate Studies.

AIPI head, Prof. Sangkot Marzuki, estimated that in the year 2045 Science Culture Excellent of Indonesia would be much disappeared. "Today science is only for industrial and economic interests, we do not see the process science. Science is a linear, we can not use science only for industry without strengthening its scientific base. The linear, stepwise representation of the process of science is simplified, but it does get at least one thing right.     Currently out of thousand research programs only one hundred are successful implemented.  Finally, only one out of those hundred research titles is successfully implemented for industrial products, "he said.

But our failure to act on the underlying scientific problem, science is only regarded as innovation, is deeply misguided. Yet science is instrument for policy making, as well as for mindset, cultural and diplomacy decision. Further he stated that India is an example of countries that aware with it. Realizing the importance of science, President Jawaharlal Nehru put science in the constitution of India.

Meanwhile, toward the celebration of 100th anniversary of Indonesia, IPB scientists  who are members of the Panitia Ad Hoc (PAH – Ad Hoc Committee) Scientific Development have assumed the development of science, especially for the agricultural development and its directions. It also described the theoretical and empirical basis needed to justify the development of science.

"By doing research programs we revealed that science and technology are convergence towards Development of Sustainable Agriculture. Some challenge is the increase in population and food insecurity, limited land and resources, climate change and environmental issues, as well as attention to energy insecurity, "said Prof. Armansyah, researchers from the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and Biosystems (FATETA IPB) on behalf of the PAH Research Committee on the seminar.

With reference to the agricultural, marine and tropical biosciences and its related fields, the achievements strategies were formulated to develop an academic atmosphere,  research facilities and appropriate policy to achieve the targets based on "by design" method, and put the target at the higher position as to reach the Nobel Award.
