Cihideung Udik Village Farmers Are Ready to Cultivate IPB 3S Rice Variety

Various agricultural products such as vegetables and root crops, including  cucumbers, beans, peria, sweet potato and purple eggplant were displayed to welcome the visit of the Friday Tour (Jumling) team of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) to Cihideung Udik village, Ciampea District, Bogor Regency, on Friday, 2 October 2015. The hard work of farmers of Cihideung Udik, who are supported by Tunas Harapan farmer group have produced abundance of agricultural products. 
 
In addition, the current news on the successful cultivation of IPB 3S rice variety by IPB’ scientists in Karawang, West Java, has reached such farmers in this village. In the present Jumling tour, those farmers expressed their interests to grow the said new variety. "We want to cultivate  IPB 3S rice as other areas have achieved to cultivate. The results are truly remarkable, the new variety has produced 8-9 tons of dry milled grain per hectare, " said Chairman of Farmers Group Tunas Harapan, Ahmad.
 
Requests of farmers of Cihideung Udik were well-responded by IPB. Deputy Head of the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM, Dr. Hartoyo, who accompanied the Jumling team expressed his willingness to provide 3S IPB rice varieties seeds to the Tunas Harapan farmer group. "If farmers cultivate successfully in this area, then IPB will decide this area to the model for student research’sits or other interested institutions," said Dr Hartayo.
 
The Village Head of Cihideung Udik, Mr. Juhdi Saepudin, stated that, "All assistances and aids donated by IPB to the Cihideung Udik villagers are very useful, they are really extraordinary knowledge. We as village officials expressed our sincere thanks for it.  Do not leave us in developing our farm. Keep on guiding us to have appropriate cultivation system, as successful farming will improve the welfare of Cihideung Udik Village farmers ".
 
The leader of present IPB Jumling tour, faculty member of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, M. Sri Duresta, S.Pt, M.Sc stated, "The agricultural sector of Cihideung Udik village has potentialities to be developed, especially whenever they are supported by farmer groups who are willing to learn and practice farming system scientifically. Please contact  IPB, or go directly to LPPM or the dedicated Faculty. IPB is open for public who require solutions to solve their agricultural problems. Not only how to grow crops were asked by farmers, but good methods to rearing animals could also raised by them. The most important thing for farmers, they must learn earnestly". 
 
Present in IPB Jumling this time, were representatives from the Human Resource Development Centre (P2SDM) LPPM, Warcito, S.P., MM, members of Agrianita IPB, LPPM team, and Public Relations staff of IPB. (Wied)
