PKSPL LPPM IPB Developed Sea Farming at Kepulauan Seribu

Center for Coastal and Marine Resources Studies (PKSPL) of the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM IPB) organized official visit and Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) harvest in Marine Station of PKSPL IPB, at District of Thousand Islands, Saturday, 21 March 2015. The team visited  two research stations, namely Sea Farming of PKSPL IPB, which is  located in the Kepulauan Seribu region, namely Sea Farming Karang Congkak dan Semak Daun research stations. 
 
Head of PKSPL of LPPM IPB, Dr. Luky Adrianto, explained that in addition to  Vannamei shrimp, this Sea Farming research station also cultivates Baronang fish. The aquaculture of Vannamei shrimp and Baronang fish was the joint 2014 IPB research programs, carried out by PKSPL LPPM and the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK-IPB). The study was carried out as part of the institutional development in the Sea Farming of Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta.
 
Vice Regent of the Kepulauan Seribu, Budi Utomo, said that the local government  focuses on tourism and community development. "We always try to ensure that all activities undertaken in the Kepulauan Seribu will be beneficial for the community and tourism. To promote the tourism sector, we established a lot of cooperations, including with research institutions. Thus, for Farming Sea activities, IPB has became the partner for the advancement of  the Kepulauan Seribu regency, "he said. 
 
Rector, Prof. Dr Herry Suhardiyanto agreed with such vision of the Kepulauan Seribu presented by regency. Rector explained that for the same reason, why the LPPM IPB exists.  According to its objectives, one of the goals of the LPPM IPB is to bring the results of research carried out by IPB into the community. This is consistent with the University’ Tri Dharma, namely the community service. According to Rector, in addition to tourist resource, the sea is also a source of food for humans. Therefore, it is necessary to make the optimum use of what it was, so it won’t cause new problems. The official visit and Vannamei shrimp harvest were ended with a symbolic handover of shrimp seeds from IPB, represented by Rector,  to the community of  Kepulauan Seribu, which was represented by its Vice Regent.
 
Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of IPB, Dr. Akhmad Mukhlis Yusuf, Head of LPPM IPB, Dr. Prastowo, Dean of FPIK IPB, Prof. Dr Indra Jaya, Director of the University Farm of IPB, Dr. Tri Pranoto, and representatives of the Government of Tangerang, were participated the event. (Wied)
