Great Bogor Declaration to Realize Community-Based Forest Management Wednesday, March 18, 2015

As a first step in creating a community-based forest management for sustainability, Graduate Student Association of Entrepreneurs, Bogor Agricultural University (Himawipa-IPB) and ECOLOGICA PSL-IPB, made a Raya Bogor Declaration, in the auditorium of Andi Hakim Nasoetion. Dramaga campus of IPB Bogor, on Saturday (14/3). Present on the occasion were all related elements in Bogor, the central and local governments, military-police state apparatus, academicians, non-governmental organizations, village apparatus and farmer groups.
 
Supervisor of Himawipa-IPB, Dr. Rachmat Pambudi said, "This activity is for the village sovereignty. We want people around the forest to be able to use the forest, preserve and maintain its sustainability so that the local economy can be improved. All of these are realized and raised in the Joint Declaration of Great Bogor.” So said Dr. Rachmat, who is also a lecturer of the Department of Agribusiness, Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of IPB.
 
IPB Rector, Prof. Dr Herry Suhardiyanto in his speech invites all elements of the society and stakeholders, particularly the villages around the forest and farmer groups, to maintain and preserve forests, and jointly support and be responsible for the success of these efforts. According to him, it is a strategic step of forest preservation to create a society-based forest management for the benefit of the entire nation.
 
Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment and Forestry of Indonesia, represented by the expert staff, Dr. Bejo Santoso, said, forest use by the public must be carried out with respect to the right forest management, that is, considering the nature and characteristics of the forest, and it is not allowed to change its primary function.
