Himaproter IPB Held the Festival of Pelung Chicken 2014

Student Association of Production Science and Livestock Technology (Himaproter), Department of Production Science and Livestock Technology, Faculty of Animal Husbandry (IPTP Fapet), Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), Saturday (1/11) again held the National Festival of Pelung Chicken 2014.

The 6th annual event was followed by 92 chickens, and was officially opened by Secretary of Department of IPTP Fapet of IPB, Dr Asep Gunawan. Located on the ground of the Rectorate of Andi Hakim Nasoetion Campus of IPB Dramaga Bogor, Dr Asep in his speech conveyed his thank to the pelung chicken lovers  who had participated in the festival. According to him, indireclty these pelung chicken lovers had helped in preserving the germplasm of Indonesia in form of the chicken having body weight that was bigger than other chicken.

Chairman of the Committee, Muhammad Sukri, explained this festival fought for the trophy of Ministry of Agriculture of RI, the permanent trophy, and the amount of cash. Students of Department of IPTP 49th batch said, the assessment that was carried out by the jury from the Association of Lovers of Pelung Chicken Indonesia (Himapi) covered the categories of sound, body weight, and appearance. Regarding the sound, Sukri mentioned that pelung chicken had the typical sound with the duration reaching of 15 seconds. Meanwhile, broiler and purebred chicken could only have a voice of three to five seconds only. (nm)
