Direktorat Riset dan Inovasi IPB gelar mini workshop Enhanching Marine Biodiversity Research in Indonesia
Directorate of Research and Innovation of IPB organized the mini workshop on Enhanching Marine Biodiversity Research in Indonesia (EMBRIO). The workshop was held at IPB International Convention Center, on 14-15 November 2014. During which, 47 (forty seven) abstracts on fisheries and marine research from various universities both locally and internationally, as well as LIPI (the Indonesian Institute of Sciences) were presented. The Workshop was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of IPB, Prof. Indrajaya, who at the same time had launched the White Paper of EMBRIO.
"The objectives of workshop specifically are improving the awareness of the community for protection, rehabilitation and sustainable use of marine resources in Indonesia. In addition, the workshop was organized to establish networks between universities and non-university research institutes, government agencies and non-governmental organizations in Indonesia. The goal of EMBRIO is to provide flatform for communication between those institutions, as well as to promote the scientific dialogue between those different perspectives researchers. Which finally will produce comprehensive results, "said the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of EMBRIO, Dr. Hawis Maddupa.
Vice Rector for Research and Cooperation, Prof.Dr.Ir. Anas Miftah Fauzi said that Indonesia is rich in marine biodiversity. "Indonesian marine fisheries is very important for scientists to explore. Therefore, appropriate strategy and management are really required to provide better solutions."
Further Prof. Anas stated in his remarks that the research agenda on marine biodiversity is very compatible with the vision of the University. He expects that this event will become the reference for the new government, which pays attention on the marine fisheries issues of Indonesia. This forum is a media to share and to communicate ideas towards the improvement of marine biodiversity research in Indonesia. (Wied).
