Balumbang Jaya Needs IPB Assistance to Develop its Village
After taking the post as village chief in Balumbang Jaya for 10 (ten) months, Mr. Yusef Farizal, SE., thought that Jumat Keliling (Friday Tour) is really beneficial program. The present Friday Tour group, the program which was initiated by the Institute of Research and Community Empowerment of IPB (LPPM – IPB), they visited Rukun Warga (RW) 11, of Balumbang Jaya village, on 7 November 2014.
"During my term as the village chief, I learn that Jumat Keliling of IPB has its own uniqueness. At the beginning, I imagined that Jumat Keliling is a community service activities where residents of the villages around the campus join together to clean up the environment. However, in reality the Jumat Keliling of IPB is really difference, in addition of voluntary works of the communities, some items of are added into the Jumat Keliling program, namely the religious element. Every time the team start their program in the villages they visit, they begin with tausiah as well as the provision of compensation for orphans, "he said.
According to village chief, Balumbang Jaya is the arid but peaceful region. Mr. Yusef urges the villagers to inform him which areas are suitable to grow trees. This program should be implemented to protect their areas, especially the water catchments, from landslides. He expects that he will be assisted by IPB experts especially to evaluate the environmental conditions of Balumbang Jaya village.
The leader of the present Jumat Keliling group was the Director of Business Development, Dr. Ir. Agus Oman Sudrajat, M.Sc, stated that IPB is very grateful as plenty of IPB students live safely in Balumbang Jaya village.
"As one of the villages located around the campus of IPB, Balumbang Jaya residents have certainly coexist with those IPB students. Healthy environment will cause healthy students. Therefore, for environmental health they could discuss it with the Department of Landscape Architecture, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, and Faculty Forestry of IPB as how to maintain their open spaces with potted plants. Conserving the catchment areas will be coordinated with the Faculty of Forestry, "he said responding the requests of Balumbang Jaya village chief.
On this special occasion, Dr. Agus handed over the fumigation/fogging tool and sprayer for sanitation of cattle stables of Balumbang Jaya village, medical equipment for Puskesmas Cingcali 1 (IHC), certificates of training course for fogging machine operation and larva monitoring, reading packet books on 9 Pillars of Character, and education facilities for early childhood education Al Hijrah 2, and also some Qurans for Attaqwa assemblies as well as donations for orphans.
