IPB and District Government of Mamasa Held the Dissemination of Research Results of Community Economic Development Planning of Mamasa District

Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies of Institute for Research and Community Services (PSP3-LPPM) IPB in collaboration with District Government of Mamasa held the Dissemination of Research Results of Community Economic Development Planning in Mamasa District. The event was held in the Session Room of the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies, Campus of IPB Baranangsiang, (8/10).

Head of PSP3 IPB, Dr.Lala Kolopaking, conveyed that this event was the follow-up of the signing of the cooperation agreement between IPB and Mamasa District. This was the form of the activities along both sides, which examined the potential of ecotourism as well as the activity of strategic assessment of products and agro-industry market-based society in Mamasa District.

Regent of Mamasa, Drs. Ramlan, M.H, conveyed his seriousness to cooperate with IPB, to develop the Mamasa area. He also conveyed, Mamasa District was very potential in the sectors of agriculture and tourism. In the sector of food agriculture, Mamasa District had potentials on coffee, vegetables, and rattan. He also conveyed, the local rice of Mamasa District had excellence. Unlike rice in other areas, Mamasa rice did not contain a lot of sugar.

Not to forget, the Regent of Mamasa also said thanks on the gait and the hard work of the researchers of IPB in Mamasa District. For the betterment of the region, the Regent of  Mamasa conveyed his special request related to the new admissions, it was desirable that the sons and daughters of the area of Mamasa could continue their studies in IPB.

Deputy Head of Community Services of LPPM IPB,Dr. Hartoyo, conveyed that IPB had worked with the local governemnts throughout Indonesia. Mamasa District was one of the priorities of IPB.  "Mamasa is an example of good cooperation model. Given the difficulty of long distance, hopefully it can be overcome," said Dr. Hartoyo.

A superior program that had been performed by IPB was the mentoring model of agrobusiness systems.  "In Karawang District, we have implemented in developing rice that we call IPB prime. In this program, the community is directed to cultivate the land with biofertilizers. The target is 10 tonnes per hectare. This program will be replicated in Tegal District. Not impossible, it can also be developed in Mamasa District. Moreover, with the potential winning of Mamasa District, that is to say the rice with low glycemix index. It is highly prospective for further maintained," continued Dr. Hartoyo.

"In the livestock sector, IPB is also developing the Breeder School for People (Sekolah Peternak Rakyat) 1111. It has been implemented in eleven districts. The target is, to  build the institutional system for breeders, to maintain the quality of the meat and livestock productivity," added Dr. Hartoyo. In addition there was also the activity of Agribusiness Development Center, namely continuous production of vegetables and cashew crystal. This activity was further replicated in Cianjur.

Dr. Hartoyo confirmed, the development of the area was not enough merely means. But it also institutionally strengthened, particularly in developing upstream and downstream sectors. "We will help the potential development in the area. Technically, it includes to send the students through the program of IPB Goes to Field or Bachelor of Village Entrance (Sarjana Masuk Desa). Besides that, there is also IPB Cyber Extension, namely the consultation with the experts of IPB over the internet. With this, the distance to the front is not a problem," concluded Dr.Hartoyo.He also hoped that this meeting could have a positive impact.
