ASEAN Universities Gather at IPB, equalizing Curriculum and Qualifications to Face AEC

Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Fateta IPB) in cooperation with universities in ASEAN countries staged an ASEAN Universities Consortium on Food and Agro-based Engineering and Technology (AUCFA). This was held at IPB International Convention Centre (IICC), 16/10.

Dean of Fateta-IPB, Dr. Sam Herodian said that in the face of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) to be enacted next year, ASEAN universities will immediately begin to equalize perceptions starting from curriculum, work qualifications of each country, which are still different in the respective country, research and scientific studies. "We have to complement our weaknesses and strengths one another as a community," said Dr. Sam.
 
This consortium involving deans of ASEAN countries is filled with competitions among students of the ASEAN countries, International Seminars and Expo, as well as exchange of students and staff. A number of speakers were also invited including Dr. Yasuyuki Aoshima (IABEE Japan), Engr Juana T Tapei (Philippines), and Dr. Mikio Umeda (Yanmar Agricultural Research Institute). As for the qualification standards, Engr Juana said that the Philippines has an equal level of Malaysia’s qualification level up to level 8, while Indonesia has 9 levels and Thailand 10 levels. (Mtd)
