Megapolitan Management Cooperation Still Low

News
The frequent flood disaster, the worsening traffic congestion increasingly horrific crimes show that as yet there is no adequate cooperation in the management of megapolitan areas.

The cooperation has not so far been effective because it has not been well structured and programmed. Those problems are also caused by poor environmental management and poor structuring of human mobility. "This must be resolved immediately. Due to mismanagement, as much as 60 percent of green open space in Jakarta has lost since 1970. The region inhabited by 30 million people is not increasing in its size," said a researcher of the Centre for Planning and Regional Development, Institute for Research and Community Service, Bogor Agricultural University (P4W-LPPM-IPB), Dr. Ernan.

This view was delivered by Dr. Ernan Rustiadi in the workshop on the enrichment of the academic manuscript draft of Regulation on an Integrated Management of Greater Jakarta: Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi and Cianjur (Jabodetabekjur). This activity was held by the Indonesian Regional House of Representatives (DPD RI) in cooperation with P4W – LPPM, IPB, Saturday (1/3).

"Actually, there is the Presidential Regulation No. 54, but it is not strong and still of discourse, so it needs to be made a law to strengthen its implementation," said Dr. Ernan.

Dr. Ernan has the worries that if the law is not immediately made, not only will the environmental damage become severe, but also the economic losses. Jakarta will not be viewed as the economic center and will be abandoned. "A lot of investors have already chose the cities of neighboring countries as their business regions instead of suffering from the losses due to the poor management of the Greater Jakarta," he stressed (mtd).
