Launching of Sains Resource Center and Fabrication Lab (FabLab) Workshop at IPB
Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Bogor Agricultural University (FMIPA IPB) has a launch of the Science Resource Center and Workshop Fablab to improve the skills and knowledge of high school students in sciences, on Tuesday, 7 January 2014, at Dramaga campus, Bogor. In newly opened laboratory there are fabrication equipment such as 3D printers, Vinyl Cutter, Laser Cutter, Milling Machine, and Sparkfun and Laptopn, and they were donated by the United Stated Agency for International Development (USAID).
Dr.. Sri Nurdiati, Dean of FMIPA IPB expected that those laboratory equipment will become the educational-aided instruments for teaching science, technology, machinery and Mathematics to the High School students. "Those equipment will certainly assist students to be more creative to develop components for industrial-scale machines, robots and so on." High Schools which were selected by USAID to be the model to have educational-aided laboratory instruments were SMAN 13, Jakarta, SMA Kornita, and SMAN 1, Kepanjen, Malang. Prior to the launching of the laboratory, representatives of students and teachers those three high school and accompanied by the faculty member of FMIPA IPB visited New York, the United States to observe the application of those equipment. Dr. Ir. Sri Nurdiati hope the donation of such laboratory, FMIPA IPB will be able to play important role to improve the educational quality of Indonesia for the successful implementation of 2013 curriculum.
Emmanuela Delva of USAID stated, “With this lab I am sure the students will learn the mathematics and other sciences easily." Launching program was carried out by Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr. Herry Suhardiyanto, and was witnessed by Director of Scientific Project of USAID, Don J. Melnick and teams (Wied).
