The Importance of Managing Archives with Technology

Hundreds of archivists attending a National Seminar of Archives held by the Technical Operational Unit of Libraries, Bogor Agricultural University and IPB’s Office of Archives, Thursday (7/11), at IPB International Convention Center (IICC), Bogor. The speakers were Prof. Dr. Kudang Boro Seminar, Information Technology Specialist of IPB, and Drs. M. Taufik, M.Si., Head of Archives Development Center, National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI ) .

 

Prof. Kudang in his presentation titled "Information Technology for Archive Management" emphasizes the importance of managing archives that are supported by technology because, according to him, archives are not a simple thing, but they have a life cycle which requires serious management.

 

"By utilizing the existing technology, people can access the archive without having to do it physically, or directly going to an office to find the necessary data. In the past, archives were confined to rooms. Now with the support of technology, they are screen-oriented," said Prof. Kudang.

 

The modernization of archive services as delivered by Prof. Kudang is oriented to user and customer’s satisfaction, human resource professionalism, punctuality and speed, various search methods, breadth of services, socialization of service procedures, and security systems. (Mtd)
