IPB’s 3rd Lively Event of Mission Target (Bidik Misi)
"Glowing Growth of the Nation’s Agriculture to Create Achieving Generation through the Mission Target"
Indeed, extraordinary was the height of IPB’s 3rd Mission Target Program – very exciting and lively. The event starting with the recitation of the Holy Quran and singing of the national anthem Indonesia Raya staged traditional dance and music shows.
"The Peak Program of Mission Target was organized to give awards and prizes, accompanied with talk shows and seminars. It invited participants from other universities and high school students from the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek)," said Committee Chairman, Ahmad Iqbal, on Saturday (2/11), at Darmaga campus of IPB. Various competitions held include sport, art, writing and academic achievement. It is hoped that although the students receiving the scholarship “Bidik Misi” are faced with economic constraints, they can make achievements.
IPB Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir Yonny Koesmaryono, MS in his speech said, IPB highly appreciates this kind of activity. "The Lively Show of Mission Target is a vehicle to establish a relationship among the students receiving the scholarships “Mission Target” and among the universities receiving the scholarships," said Prof. Yonny.
The Mission Target Scholarship is given to students who are less capable economically, but excel in learning. This scholarship is offered to new students or those in the First-Year Common Program in Bogor Agricultural University (TPB-IPB). This year is the 4th year; the government provides the scholarships to 1,200 students of IPB in Batch 50. It is recorded that the number of IPB’s students receiving such scholarships has reached 3,600 people.
"This Mission Target is one of the programs to show the government’s concern for the younger generations, especially those who are economically disadvantaged, but excel academically. With the scholarship, there is no more reason for young people due to economic constraints that they can not go to college," said Director of Student Affairs, IPB, Dr. Ir. Rinekso Soekmadi, M.Sc., MS. IPB is aware that this scholarship is still inadequate. Some students still feel inadequate despite receiving the scholarship. In this regard, IPB will continue to improve the scholarships optimally as, Dr. Rinekso says further, the cost of living in big cities is now very expensive.
Dr. Rinekso advises that the recipients of the scholarship be really careful and wise in using the scholarship. "Do not waste the money earned. You have to be good at managing the money appropriately. The scholarship recipients also required, in addition to graduating on time, to reach the cumulative grade point (GPA) of at least 2.00. Otherwise, they may risk getting the sanction of drop-out (DO)," he advises. (Mtd)
