FPIK-IPB Holds an International Symposium on Fisheries

Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, Bogor Agricultural University (FPIK – IPB) in cooperation with the Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology of Japan and the Indonesian Community of Fishery Products Processing held the First International Symposium on Aquatic Products Processing with the topic “Maximizing Benefits and Minimizing Risk on Aquatic Products Processing : Blue Economy Approach.” The event was held at IPB International Convention Center, Wednesday (13/11).
 
Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Prof. Indra Jaya said, at present the quality of fishery products become popular topics. "In this symposium the discussion is not only of how we look at the practices of fishery products processing, but also the supply chain system, financial aspects, and stakeholders especially in Indonesian,  who still manage the fishery products in the traditional way," said Prof. Indra.
 
Prof. Indra hopes this symposium will be followed up with action programs towards industrial applications. The event also exhibited a variety of fishery products such as various chips, fish crackers, shredded fish, craft products from fish skins and sea tour packages.
 
Meanwhile, Director General of Marketing of Fishery Products, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia, Ir. Saud Parulian Hutagalung says that the most effective approach to the fishery management is the implementation the blue economy in industries. This can strengthen the industry, is environmentally friendly, become an added value and increase competitiveness. The integration of the industry of blue economy and minapolitan can increase income and employment. Moreover, in addition to being environmentally friendly, no product is wasted (zero waste). 
 
On the occasion Ir. Saud, who is an IPB alumnus, was appointed as a pioneer in the development of fishery product marketing. In the symposium the Seafood Update Magazine was also launched, which will be published quarterly. It is planned that this symposium will be held regularly every year. (Mtd)
