First Champion of National Science Festival 2013, Entered IPB Without Selection

Achievement

As much as 2,100 students from Senior High Schools (SMA) and equal throughout Indonesia followed the National Science Festival 2013 at Grha Widya Wisuda (GWW), Campus of Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) Dramaga, Friday (8/11). This activity was held by Student Executive Board, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (BEM FMIPA IPB). 

 

They came from 158 SMA/MA of Aceh, Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi. Every school sent 5 teams at maximum for competing in this national event. “This year the number of students experience an increase compared to last year. The increase is around 20 schools. It’s beyond other schools which want to sign up, but it is constrained by quota,” said Dadan Sunandar, Chairman of Committee of the National Sciene Festival 2013.

 

This annual competition already took place for elevent times and fought for the Trophy of the President of RI, the Trophy of the Ministry of Research and Technology (Kemenristek) of RI, the Trophy of Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) and Andi Hakim Nasoetion Cup. But since 2012, for the first champion from every category it had the right to enter IPB without selection.

“I am sure the students who attend here are the best. However, from the best of these, we will know who the champions are. For this year, the first champion from every category has the right to become the student of IPB without selection. But on condition, the student has been in class XII when winning this competition,” said Prof. Dr. Yonny Koesmaryono, Vice Rector of Academic and Student Affairs of  IPB in his speech. 

 

There were ten contests in the competition that lasted for two days. Namely, Junior Statistics Competition, Interactive Meteorology, Quick Right Contest of Biology, Chemistry Challenge, Matematika Ria, Programming Competition, Physics Competition, Popular Scientific Work Contest and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Young Researcher Award (for students and teachers).

In times of the students followed the contests, the accompanying teachers got additional insights through seminars, workshops and expos. In addition to looking for the best students among the best, this event would also choose the Exemplary Teachers of the National Science Festival 2013. (zul)
