Trivial Things Can Become International Trade Barriers

Deputy Minister of Trade, Dr. Bayu Krisnamurti said that in the current international trade, developed countries are greatly looking forward to ASEAN countries. "ASEAN has everything. We have a source of energy, food and a great market," said Dr.Bayu as a Keynote Speaker in The 14th Malaysia-Indonesia International Conference on Economics, Management and Accounting at IPB International Convention Center, Bogor, Wednesday (9/10) .

 

Also according to Dr.Bayu, this Malaysia-Indonesia International Conference on Economics is very important for the economic progress of the ASEAN countries in the future. "I would like to invite you all Ladies and Gentlemen to discuss what is needed for the market ahead. Free trade is not something new," said Dr. Bayu. This is already underway today. He examplifies Malaysia and Singapore that have free entry into Indonesia, and vice versa. Not only that, the ASEAN countries can freely invest in Indonesia, and vice versa.

 

Indeed, it is the trivial thing that is  often a problem, but has a major impact on trade, for example, the language issue. Indonesian products are often hindered from coming to ASEAN countries, for example, Malaysia simply because of a document. It is not due to an illegal document but for example the price unit used in the local state can determine whether a product is acceptable or not.

 

"For academics who are present here I have the questions from the government that may be used for your research topics," said Dr.Bayu.

 

These questions are: What  is the best combination of supply chain management among ASEAN countries that can benefit the economy of ASEAN countries? Can ASEAN countries encourage more entrepreneurs? What is the best position of ASEAN in terms of products and services? What should be done in terms of cooperation regulations in ASEAN countries? (Mtd)
