Toward IdulAdha, FKH-IPB Will Inspect the Health of Sacrificed Animals and Its Meats
Toward IdulAdha 1434 H, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Bogor Agricultural University (FKH-IPB) has assisted the government to inspect the slaughtering process and the provision of meat of sacrificial animals. To implement such action, the FKH-IPBhas sent its students to inspect the healthof the sacrificed animal and its meat in Jakarta, Bogor and Depok.
"This activity is one of the manifestationof the university tri dharma, the community service," said Rector of IPB, Prof. Dr.HerrySuhardiyanto, M.Sc. The statement was deliveredin the departure of Lecturer and Students of FKH-IPBfor this action to inspect health of sacrificed animals and its meats, at Campus IPB, on Friday, 11 October 2013. The release of students was carried symbolically by putting a white coat and a sacrificial animal health inspection equipment.
"This year, we send as many as 617 students. These students will be assigned to implement their jobs in six regions, as follows: (1). Six areas of Jakarta; (2). The Thousand Islands; (3). Bogorcity; (4). Bogor regency; and (5). Depok. 292 (two hundred and ninety two will be assigned for Jakarta greater areas, 8 (eight) students for theThousand islands, 121 (one hundred and twenty one) students for Bogorcity, 100 (one hundred) students for Bogor regency, and 75 (seventy five) students for Depok. The number of faculty members who joined this program are 39 (thirty nine) members, "said the Dean of FKH-IPB, SrihadiAgungpriyono, DVM., Ph.D, PAVet (K).
The assigned students will be dispatched on the H-1 to the Thousand Islands, Bogor regency, North Jakarta and Depok. Specially for BogorCity and Greater Areas of Jakarta will be dispatched on D-Day. Prior to their departure, students and faculty members as well were briefed on the theory and practicalworks on the sacrificed animal health and its meats inspection, thus, they have appropriate skills to inspect the sacrificed animals and its meat independently and professionally. Those faculty members and students of IPB are expected to assist government fieldofficers to carry out their jobs. "This is evidence that FKH-IPB is not only concerns on the animal health, but they also concern for human health and the environment. Basically, the education system in Faculty of Veterinary Madicine has expanded into One Health rules, which is now is being promoted intensively,” stated Dr.Srihadi.
Finally, it was time for Mr.Srihadi, DVMto give advices for students who will depart for their field works. "We urge you all to perform you duties well, always keepgood reputation of your alma mater, professionalisms, and please respect ethics and politeness in public. By doing such good deeds, I am sure you will get two valuable experiences. First, you will learn first information from the community which will increase your skills. Secondly, you will merit your worship as you’ll help others. So, you’ll perform good works for others and please bear in your mind that you will do it for the benefit ofr others."(Wied).
